Superpeterbilt Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Can anyone help with any leads to source an 85 ranger? It doesnt seem that there was ever one in kit form. Does anyone know of any diecast, or toys that are close enough to be modified? Resin?
SSNJim Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 There was an R/C toy with a plastic body scaled somewhere between 1/24 and 1/20; I think it was by New Bright. The body was fairly decent, but mostly one piece. I think maybe the grille/front bumper was separate and the windows were black. The bed was very shallow, and had two pedestals for a wing. That's all I know of. I usually cruise the toy aisles of the Ross, Marshall, Big Lots, Tuesday Morning, and similar stores looking for decent bodies on cheap RC cars. I've found 2010+ Chevy/GMC trucks, Cadillac Escalades, and a Porsche 918 Spyder. The 918 is better detailed than many static models I've seen. All for less than $10 each.
Aaronw Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 I think this one was largely missed. There was a kit for the Ford Courier and the later Ford Ranger, but never seen anything for this body style. Unfortunate because this is my favorite style of Ranger and it would also provide a starting point for a Bronco II for anyone willing to do a lot of modification.
Superpeterbilt Posted October 31, 2016 Author Posted October 31, 2016 (edited) Im assuming that this is the toy reffered to? Edited October 31, 2016 by Superpeterbilt
Chuck Most Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 It does say Ranger on it, but it looks more like a seventh-gen F-Series to me.
Casey Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 (edited) The one I saw years ago at Goodwill was an awful beige/peach color, was close to 1/24 scale, and was as simple plastic body shell with a "glass" window insert. Edited October 31, 2016 by Casey
SSNJim Posted November 1, 2016 Posted November 1, 2016 Im assuming that this is the toy reffered to? No, this one didn't have the blower, was a regular cab, and was a beige color, with purple/magenta highlights IIRC. The wheel wells were extended, too, like a monster truck. It sounds more like the one Casey described. Now I'm going to have to see if I can dig it up and get a picture.
afx Posted November 1, 2016 Posted November 1, 2016 These are the only compact Ranger kits I am aware of:
Superpeterbilt Posted November 1, 2016 Author Posted November 1, 2016 I think Im going to play around with heavily modifying a 1/32 F150. I just need to find a body builders manual for the ranger.
