Joe Handley Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 (edited) Looks like they're not much worse than when I filled up last week, probably going to top it off again tomorrow just to keep the fill up "cheap". Edited May 19, 2008 by Joe Handley
Jello Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 Its interesting to note that gas sells for .64 cents a gallon in Saudi Arabia today and we save their butts everytime something goes wrong over there?? Wheres the love eh? Whats more scary to me is what happens at the breaking point? High food prices, lack of decent health care ( read, money), fuel, bad weather on & on....Hope I got enough paint, glue and Pork'n' Beans to build models when all hell breaks out & chaos rules the day! Will model kits of the future be wagons with two-tone color mules with interchangable hats?.. ~ Jeff
Guest zebm1 Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 Interesting isn't it? Dumya goes to Saudi, asks for more oil production, the Saudi King ( supposed to be our "Friend") tells King George where to stick it and oh BTW yall keep defending our ruthless dictatorship or we'll cut you off completely. With friends like these, who needs more enemies?
Harry P. Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 Its interesting to note that gas sells for .64 cents a gallon in Saudi Arabia today ~ Jeff And in Venezuela, it goes for .12 cents/gallon!!!
Jello Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 And in Venezuela, it goes for .12 cents/gallon!!! Geezz!...that really gets my goat! A Big block Chevelle getting 7mpg would have a field day tearing up those roads!..oh wait, do they even have roads?? I almost can't wait to become a 3rd world country! Then that way we can get 'free' stuff from other countries... Hey, I got an idea, we have the worlds greatest military machine do we not? I say we root out that cheese head in Venezuela..... ~ Jeff
Harry P. Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 In Venezuela the government controls gas prices. We tried it here once...and it didn't work. Seems to be working SPECTACULARLY well in Venezuela. What do they know that we didn't???
Jello Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 I'am not too skilled in the 'fine ways' of being a politic nor do I wish to lower myself to their levels but I do know our government can do a whole lot better than this and finding someone thats not interest in power & money along with a few other 'perks' seems to be the answer..question is, is such a animal with a spine still around??...or am I being too native here... I reckons most folks are living just a wee bit too comfortable to concern themselves with the price of fuel...we'll see how they act when it reaches 10 bucks a gallon. Well,...we can always go back to makin 'shine. ~ Jeff
Zoom Zoom Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 In Venezuela the government controls gas prices. We tried it here once...and it didn't work. Seems to be working SPECTACULARLY well in Venezuela. What do they know that we didn't??? Because Venezuela is an oil-producing country, it's their top export. While the US has oil reserves, we import most of the oil we consume. US policy is for us to consume everyone else's oil, leaving ours mostly alone, a strategic policy for when oil is really running out. We put price controls on imported oil (which was a disaster), Venezuela's price control is for their own product. Their citizens get a break from their country selling oil to the rest of the world. You really cannot compare an oil producing country's price controls to our policy back then of controlling the price of imported oil.
dodgefever Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 you guys at least have a decent public transportation system. majority of them here in the States stink. I looked into riding a bus to school. which would be alot cheaper. but I'd be on the bus 6 hours a day Public transport might be viable for those who live and work in big cities, but for the rest of us, driving is the only practical way of commuting. I wish we could be paying the prices you guys are quoting - we were paying more than that 10 years ago.
