Canso65 Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 After mulling around different thoughts and ideas about my TAT build this year I have finally decided to build this Italeri Western Star I have had sitting around for awhile. I'll also be adding a Fruehauf Van both to be painted in the livery of Van-Kam, a local trucking company. The decals have been order from ModelTruckin.com but I'm sure it will take a few weeks before I receive them. Not a big deal as there is lots of work I can do before I get to the decal stage. I have found some great shots online of a Western Star painted up in the Van-Kam colors but I don't want to break any rules by posting it here. Here is the kit:
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 My favorite square (or rectangle) headlight truck. This will be good I'm sure!

Tesla Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 Great build choice and I look forward to your progress.
gatorincebu Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 Rob, That is a great choice for the build off. Be Well Gator
Canso65 Posted January 5, 2017 Author Posted January 5, 2017 I managed to get a couple of evenings in on the WS. The frame is together and thankfully straight. Mocked up with the wheels to ensure it is sitting well, and again thankfully it is. So far this kit has been nice to build!
tbill Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 off to a nice start. can't wait to see how it all comes together.
gatorincebu Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 off to a nice start. can't wait to see how it all comes together. X's 2 Looking forward to following the build. Be Well Gator
kilrathy10 Posted January 7, 2017 Posted January 7, 2017 Yes Sir.....This is looking pretty good.....It's always a good thing to have a straight frame and wheels that all sit firmly on the ground.....Excellent.....
Canso65 Posted January 9, 2017 Author Posted January 9, 2017 Thanks guys! I got a little bit more done this weekend. Managed to get the frame primed white in preparation for the metalic green paint. The engine is together waiting for paint and I did a quick mockup of the cab and sleeper.
gatorincebu Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 Looks like you are making some progress ion this one. I just sent a sleeper like that to a friend in the States. Going to build mine as a day cab. Be Well Gator
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 Looking great!! This is one of my favorite kits. I built one about 18 years ago. Keep up the good work!
Canso65 Posted January 14, 2017 Author Posted January 14, 2017 Thanks Gator and Brian. Got some paint on the frame this week. I think I will put one more coat on the frame before I move on.
Mopar - D Posted January 14, 2017 Posted January 14, 2017 Nice progress Rob I agree one more coat on the frame will help.
gatorincebu Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 I like the color. And I agree. It needs a couple more coats of paint. Be Well Gator
Canso65 Posted January 17, 2017 Author Posted January 17, 2017 Thanks guys!I just finished putting another coat on the frame. I think one more and then I should be able to move on.
