mk11 Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 (edited) ... a nice thought... Thanks Mark. I've had some kits here for forty years and others I'll never get rid of, but a lot of kits scored on the 'someday' principle end up moving on somewhere. Having the flow helps me keep up on trends and basic intel so I can sorta kinda keep up a semi-intelligent rapport on the forums Besides, I kinda agree with Garfield... mike Edited January 8, 2017 by mk11

Maindrian Pace Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 We go through two stages in our lives - an acquisition stage, and a dispersal stage. Both are important, but for different reasons. The older you get, less is more - that's for sure. I've got my junk pared down to just one bedroom closet, with more to be sold off to come. Getting rid of stuff takes a lot more effort than getting it does, but others I know have the same problem, just on a far grander scale. One guy made millions with a dental lab, spent a few million on everything he ever wanted, like a helicopter, motorcycles, lathes, a tractor, 4x4 pickup, quads, big time machine and sheet metal tools, tons of high end furniture, and on and on. The best of everything too, with all the trimmings. He used some of it a few times, much of it not at all, and now the pile sits in a BIG aircraft hanger as he wonders how to get rid of it all. And all I've got is a few models, some car parts, and a few other things to worry about. Puts it all into perspective.
RancheroSteve Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 Well said, Mike - although I first read that as him having a big "time machine" and I thought, if you had a time machine why would you want all that other stuff? As we get older, it seems like time becomes the most precious commodity.
gtx6970 Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 (edited) I have my Mopar dealership promotional collection sold as of late last nite. Ive been thinking about this for some time Ive decided to thin the stash in a big way ,,,and to just really get it down to what I think I want to build ,,both now and in the future.None of my old annuals will go away but a lot of $10 to $20 models made in the past 25 - 30 years will. We are planning a move to Arizona in the next 16-18 months and I really don't want to have to haul all this across country only to just be 're-stored' there.Plus,,,we're looking into the possible purchase of a vintage 1/1 car ,,,and / or maybe AZ investment property purchases over the next 12 to 18 months . Mr Stock Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 I have a feeling I've just bought a few of your old kits Christian ....hmm
peekay Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Sold these and about 60 other kits and promos on the weekend. I'll probably regret it somewhere down the line.
Rob Hall Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Moving out of a house after almost 9 years leads to finding plenty to get rid of....been busy boxing up stuff for my move to Ohio..
Erik Smith Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 Sold these and about 60 other kits and promos on the weekend. I'll probably regret it somewhere down the line. Funny - within the last year, I parted ways with almost this exact collection. No regrets.
disabled modeler Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 I got rid of a AMT 57 Chevy and a Monogram 70 TA kit....to others needed them more than i did.
dragstk Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 I got rid of about 1/16" off some 3/32 Evergreen tube, some flash off a '37 Chevy Stovebolt, a bit of glue and some stress. And Im good with that.
High octane Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 I've been "thinnin' the herd" for the last few years and hopefully by next year I'll be where I want to be as far as unbuilt model kits go. Sometimes at least for me its been hard to choose which kits stay and which kits go, as I bought almost all of them with the intention of building them someday. As I get older and see that I'm not crankin' out built kits like I had hope to, I also see that my expectations shouldn't be so high as far as finishing X number of model kits in the future either.
Snake45 Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 "Get rid of"? Sorry, I don't understand the concept....
