Superpeterbilt Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 Ive seen a few people build trailers for these Italeri 20' containers, and I was inspired to build one using the dump trailer frame. It was a fairly easy conversion to pull off.Construction is completed, and all I have tl do is paint, so theres no reason not to complete it. I used the smaller tires from the lowboy re-issue. They fit the rims much better than the kit tires that dont fit at all. I used rectangle tube for the outriggers to support the container, and the rear bumper. I made new landing gear using square tube(the feet are temporary. I added angle underneath the outriggers, where the mudflaps will attatch. I hope to at least have it primed tomorrow, maybe painted. I have no idea of colors yet. Thanks for looking.
Dieselhead Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 Looks really good. Color wise, I'd personally go with just a flat black on the whole thing, maybe off-white rims. Nice and universal.
Pete68 Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 Nice work terry Not to tell you how to built that chassis but to give you some help if you would move those boster pin locks back to the rear and the front ones to the first cross member it would help that way you can be even with the dock I've pulled these for years. I've tried to load some pic of some we have on our yard I took last year but it won't let me
Pete68 Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 Terry I finally got the pic to load hope this helps
kilrathy10 Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 This has to be one of the BEST ideas I've seen, yet......Another reason to be a part of this forum......I'm TOTALLY gonna do this conversion.....It's so simple, I can't figure why "I" didn't come up with this one..... Man, this looks great......Accuracy is not as important as the representation for this particular build.....Who says you can't build a container trailer, this way??? I, for one, am loving this idea.....
Mopar - D Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 Nice idea Terry looks good to just needs some paint ?
Superpeterbilt Posted January 15, 2017 Author Posted January 15, 2017 Thanks a lot guys. This was inpired on the trip back from Disney World. I rode on side of one for awhile, and thought, Why not? Lee, I realize that the way Ive built it is not exactly correct, but the one I used for inpiration had some frame sticking out from the front, and back. I know that some of theses chassis have sliding axles and can be slid out to extend past the container. I just built a rigid version of this. Its good for other projects to get a simple build knocked out. I have to say that the container went together pretty nicely, and it fit the trailer almost too well.
Superpeterbilt Posted January 15, 2017 Author Posted January 15, 2017 Ok, I settled on some colors. Frame is blue, container is red oxide primer. I will apply decals to primer, then clear flat over it. Im happy with the choices.
Mopar - D Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 I like your colors Terry. Do you know what your going to use for a tractor ?
Superpeterbilt Posted January 16, 2017 Author Posted January 16, 2017 I like your colors Terry. Do you know what your going to use for a tractor ?There probably wont be a dedicated tractor for this, but I think it would look good behind a cabover.
Superpeterbilt Posted January 16, 2017 Author Posted January 16, 2017 The paint has set enough for a mockup. Im happy with the color choice.
kilrathy10 Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Man, I like this....It just looks good.....Excellent idea.....I've got a few of these containers, and I can't wait to try this.....Thank you for this amazing idea....
clayton Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Gravel trailer gee wezz, I been trying to use sheets.
gatorincebu Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Terry, Cool conversion of that dump trailer frame. I had been thinking about doing one along those lines as well.I remember seeing lots of trailer like that in Florida over the years. Also ones with a similar but longer frame to haul 2 twenties or one 40. I would guess after seeing some photos online and also real truck here in the Philippines. The skel trailers have been beefed up to handle the weight of the heavier containers. Anyway I like it. Be Well Gator
