JollySipper Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 Hey, fellas...... I was wondering if someone could tell me what the finish on these wheels is? Is it the material they are made of, or are they just painted tan? Thanks.............
Dodge Driver Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 (edited) Looks like it could be an attempt to re-create "Dow 7", a goldish finish for magnesium. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/what-color-paint-to-use-to-match-dow-7-coating.235753/If you scroll down toward the bottom of the page, a poster lists his spray can 'recipe' and photos of his results. Snake45 Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 If you want that on a model, you could get darn close with Model Master Jet Exhaust.
JollySipper Posted January 28, 2017 Author Posted January 28, 2017 Thank you, Guys! I was curious as to if these wheels served a purpose or if they were done just for the look.......Snake, I'll look into that paint, thanks....
935k3 Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 Take a look at Tamiya TS-87 Titanium Gold for this.
Ace-Garageguy Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 The REAL Dow7 for reference, for anyone who's interested. http://www.chemical-supermarket.com/Dow-7-Magnesium-Treatment-Compound-p652.html
StevenGuthmiller Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 I mix a lot of these "metal" colors with Alclad. A mixture of "Pale Gold" & "Aluminum" would get you very close. I use this mixture for a lot of carburetors. Steve

Yes, I use a lot of Alclad for these types of parts. The transmission is "Dark Aluminum", the alternator & fan clutch are "Polished Aluminum" & the exhaust manifolds are..........wait for it.........."Exhaust Manifold".
