Not sure if everyone is aware but you can delete a thread or topic that you started.  Just click on the drop down menu "Moderation Actions" at the upper right of your original post and select "Delete".  This eliminates the entire thread.

Great for when you have double posted something by accident or if your listed a trade/wanted topic and have completed your transaction

This option was reinstated two years(?) ago or so, and is especially useful for the Trade and Wanted sections, after what you're looking for has been found or sent elsewhere.

Dave A, can you possibly update the pinned Trading Guidelines post to reflect this (semi) new ability to delete posts on your own?

I only wish we had this option for our individual posts.  I sometimes get a double post or a blank post and wish I could delete it.

We do. Do you not have the option, Pete? It is listed among the "Options" when you post a reply to an existing topic, but at the top of your post when you start a new topic, like so:

Oops!  Yes I do.  I was aware of the moderator option(I deleted the entire "like button" thread.  It was getting nasty), but I was unaware of this one.  Thanks for pointing it out.  Trust me, I will be using it!

The Moderation Actions at the top of the page will delete the entire thread. Look for an Options button at the bottom of the individual post, that should give you a delete option that is just for that particular post.

I would prefer the original poster to be able to lock a thread. Not really a fan of the delete option for members. I've seen threads with some good info get deleted and it was lost becuse it wss deleted. However being able to delete a single post is a good idea as doubke posts occasionally happen.

Great tip! Thanks. I actually managed to duplicate my very first post in the "Welcome! Introduce yourself" forum. Felt a little stupid. Didn't find that "delete" option. Somebody else deleted the duplicate so no harm done, but I'll know now how to correct any mistake I make in the future. Thanks from a newbie!

Has the "Delete" function been disabled?  I wanted to delete a Trading Post  topic and the only option I can only select is "Hide"

I noticed that, too. That should be a moderator.admin function only, but it functions the same as delete for all practical purposes.

The delete function has in fact been disabled and is now only a mod/admin function. You can now only hide your posts and threads. If you have something you want deleted, you need to use the report function and state why you want it reviewed and deleted. I try to catch the multiple posts or threads and delete the extras when I see them, but I don't catch them all.

When did this change take place? How are you able to delete other member's posts/topics?

The delete option was changed last week. I have been a moderator since the end of last year.

And you didn't get the public title to go with it? Gregg did give you the key to the executive bathroom at least...right? -_-
