I live and work near Austin, TX. It seems like there are a lot of "old" Beetles out and about these days. I don't know if it's my imagination, if it's Austin being a bit less "cowboy" than the rest of Texas, or if there really are more being driven.

What about where you live? Are you seeing more old Beetles than normal? It could be that people are pulling the old cars out of the garage because Bugs get better fuel economy than their normal daily driver.

 Lee, they din't stop makin bugs down in ol mehico till quite a wile after we stopped gettin em here. May bee thats why. Besides, up here in Deeetroit we allways get salted inna winter an thats not too healthy with cars what use thin steel to begin with. But to be honest wichya no, dont see many of the ol bugs round here. Edited by george 53

Haven't noticed it either, but they made 21,529,464 of the darn things. I am sure at least some of them are still running around.

The Beetle is a popular car to restore these days because of the nostalgia that seems to infect the old hippies still around. I am sure in Texas and other non-salty states, those are still seen. Easy to work on and fun to drive and economical too. Plus, you could still buy up to a couple of years ago CKD Volkswagens direct from Mexico and build your own. I attend a yearly Volks show and two of those Mexican cars come every year.

Austin is a VW Meca. There is a VW following there seconded by Socal. Several Large VW clubs run around in Austin.

I Built a 66 few years ago and sold it but I will get another one. I love'em and respond to horsepower increases better than a small block chevy

Mine had a 2276 making 208 HP at the flywheel. It ran 12.80's at 106 mph and was street driven with full trim..

I miss it
