tedd60 Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 Besides BMF, what paint and procedures are best to replicate not-rusted bare metal like steel, iron, stainless, new aluminum and old aluminum? Thanks,T
landman Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 I have had good success with painting the part either steel or aluminum then rubbing it with Usci Van der Rosten powder. Gives it the naked steel look. The door and the fender were done like that. You can actually polish that stuff too.
Miatatom Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 The Metalizer line of Model Master lacquer paints is pretty good if you want a quick easy solution.
Ace-Garageguy Posted March 4, 2017 Posted March 4, 2017 This (the COWL, not the cockpit cover) is what you can expect from Testors metalizers (this is "aluminum plate", shot wet, 3 coats, allowed to dry 2 dours, and buffed with a VERY soft cloth. And this is a technique I developed to represent a raw aluminum body, fresh from the metal-shaper, just prior to priming...
tedd60 Posted March 4, 2017 Author Posted March 4, 2017 The Metalizers look like they'll do the job. Beautiful work.Thank you all.T
Howard Cohen Posted March 4, 2017 Posted March 4, 2017 I have used the C1 Metalizer powder and it adds a very realistic metal finish, working better on dark colours. The Batpod is C1 over the black plastic and I like the finish.
tedd60 Posted March 4, 2017 Author Posted March 4, 2017 That C1Powder is pretty amazing. For those following along at home, I did a search of this forum and found a thread about it: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/106225-did-this-spoon-test-of-c1s-metallizer/Amazing stuff.
