crossfire 2004 Posted March 5, 2017 Posted March 5, 2017 Have been working on this Speedwagon recently and thought I would share my progress with the collective. Wanted a more old timer feel to the build so swopped out the engine and trans for the flathead from the '38 pickup kit. Rear end is '40 banjo mounted on a '36 crossmember while the wheels & tyres are from the '31 sedan. The interior has the front bench from the '32 Phaeton and the rear seat was deleted to make way for a sliced 'n' diced load deck from a '55 Nomad though in hindsight this wasn't worth the effort as it's barely visible when assembled. Steering wheel is from a '37 Chevy. When completed it wil include full fenders and the hood top. No doubt this combination is technically incorrect to the rivet counters among the forum members but I will not be losing sleep from any criticisms.
Dennis Lacy Posted March 6, 2017 Posted March 6, 2017 This is great! I've many times thought of doing a backdate on this kit and started to at one point. I really like all the parts swapping you did and ironically I was doing the same thing to the interior of mine - bench seat and cargo deck. Good color scheme, too. It goes good with the wood. One of the problems with ditching the fenders on this kit is there's no rear wheelwells. I made some for mine. Do plan to do anything there?
espo Posted March 6, 2017 Posted March 6, 2017 I think it looks great and I like the back dating idea on this. As mentioned the wheel wells shouldn't be hard to do with a little sheet plastic if you haven't already planned on that. Very nice surf board rack.
lysleder Posted March 6, 2017 Posted March 6, 2017 Err.. guys? He mentioned he will be using the fenders. They are just not ready to be test fitted yet. Funny thing is, just last week I had my Speedwagon kit out and was dreaming up something along the same lines. I even decided on an off-white color for it. I guess you beat me to it Stuart
Tom Geiger Posted March 6, 2017 Posted March 6, 2017 I like everything about this build! Your wood treatment, both inside and out, is great. You have achieved "The Look". You may want to take some photos of the car with and without fenders... I like it without, but could change my vote if I saw it with fenders.I have a '32 Ford Phantom Vickie kit that I bought as a parts kit. Someone had taken the chassis and suspension out of it, but the body and interior had been painted and assembled. It is an antique white with a light brown leather look interior. Stunning enough that I bought another kit for the missing parts!
crossfire 2004 Posted March 7, 2017 Author Posted March 7, 2017 Many thanks for all the positive feedback on this project, the finished build is now on display in the "under glass " section.
