martinfan5 Posted May 7, 2017 Author Posted May 7, 2017 Yep I know those cars are the same technology no matter what make the body is. The thing is, even that Toyota logo scares me away, I grew up on a family that always had "real" American Cars (here in Finland) and my all cars are Chevrolets as well. I could never imagine having a Japanese car myself. European or Japanese cars just don't do it for me... Sorry, but even if it was built in the States, the Toyota logo just ruins it in my opinion. So you have no problem with the Chevy SS being 100% Australian but sold in the US?, or Holden, while being a part of GM, is 100% Australian
martinfan5 Posted May 7, 2017 Author Posted May 7, 2017 I believe it was still 9.36 lbs per Cubic inch back then so 427 x 9.36 = 3,996lbs. That wasn't really a hinderance in those days as Detroit was just making street cars with the intention of using them in NASCAR. That's why the Superbird and Daytona and all the homologation special aero cars existed in the first place. NASCAR clamped down on them before they got out of hand Everything done to NASCAR today is for the sake of parity for better TV racing with driver and fan safety factoring in as well. "Golden Age" NASCAR was boring as %#*@ Richard Petty won Martinsville in 1972 by 7 laps after dropping a cylinder halfway through. Ned Jarrett won Darlington one year by 14 laps and he was actually running 3rd before the 2 leaders blew up with about 40 laps to go. People read about the races in the newspaper on Monday or watched a edited version on Wide World of Sorts a month later. Not to mention a couple drivers died every year. It would never have made it on live TV. The 358 ci, common wheelbase cars of the late 70's made NASCAR a spectator sport. Thanks Brett, so it/was a few hundred pounds more then the current cars, I think they are in the 3300 pound range, NASCAR has been changing the weight since the COT chassis, it was 3450, went down to 3300, they added 20 pounds for this year.

What about the Korean Chevrolets then...a Daewoo with Chevrolet markings. And for Toyota, they did a pushrod V8 just to be able to compete in NASCAR...they didn't have one before. I for one look forward to these full detail NASCAR Cup car kits and it looks like they have done a decent job with them, the new kits looks to be of todays standards and not a re-bodied old NASCAR kit from the early 2000's. Mikey56 Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 for all......I am waiting on the new glue kits because I am a racer at heart (owned and raced my own) and a nascar fan....but I've been modeling for over 40 years....nothing noteworthy, I just enjoy building my own way....but, I need some help.....i'm looking for a full containment seat that I saw....it's not one of the metal ones that are offered (which are awesomely done!)....i'm building the Jim Cushman duster right now....cut the front clip off and replaced it with one of the nascar kits front clip....cut the floor board apart and re-did the tunnel and shifter area and cut the molded in seat bars....now i'm looking for a full containment seat that I saw either on here or on another site, but my laptop crashed and I lost the address....they were 3d printed, great in detail and sold for about $5.00 a piece.....if anyone can help I would really appreciate it... also, i'm using the current snap nascar kit rims and tires....they fill the wheel well better than the stock stuff and I like the "rounded" sidewall....sanding them down and using a hoosier decal makes the tires look a lot like the ones I raced on....thanks in advance!!!! mike
W-409 Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 So you have no problem with the Chevy SS being 100% Australian but sold in the US?, or Holden, while being a part of GM, is 100% Australian Well, I'm much happier to look at a Chevy built in Australia than any new car that is built by a Japanese make. And those Korean "Chevrolets" / Daewoos or whatever junk they are... They are a big no-no. Anyway I'll just say I have zero interest for that Toyota, but I'll definitely buy one Chevy NASCAR kit when it's out. Now, back to the actual subject.
bbowser Posted May 13, 2017 Posted May 13, 2017 Like them or not, Toyota is now a championship winning make. I'm no fan of Kyle but would like to build an M&Ms car for the case. I too am looking forward to the glue kits.
horsepower Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 Is this using a stock bodied new Camry ( or whatever they are using today ) as an example or a body that doesn't resemble ANY thing except the grille. Modern cars dont use anything stock bodied The Superbird had to use EVERYTHING stock . If the new cars get to use modern body designs , allow the Bird to be updated to level the playing field so to speak. With todays engine / power train advancements using a basic stock design Hemi long block. Im not so sure it would ' smoke it' the roof, quarter panels, deck lid, hood, and fenders are all body items that are factory sourced body panels on the new bodies of NASCAR race cars. A lot different than the bodies of '90s and early 2000's that looked like they had been stepped on, twisted and tweaked to the point that the only recognisable piece was the roof.
martinfan5 Posted May 17, 2017 Author Posted May 17, 2017 Yes, the current cars look more like their street counter parts then the twisted sisters cars did ( 2004-2007), and I wont mention the COT
Dave Van Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 Yes, the current cars look more like their street counter parts then the twisted sisters cars did ( 2004-2007), and I wont mention the COTJelly Beans as we in Charlotte called them!!! The current cars (bodys) are all related to Dodge Chargers......funny how they picked a brand that left the sport!!!

I think I have heard jelly beans before, yeah, it is kind of funny, but I dont think at the time NASCAR or Dodge had any idea they would be leaving.
