stavanzer Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 I'm looking into trying to build a model of her 2015 Championship car.Any ideas where to start looking for a Body and Chassis. I figure the Body will have to be resin, but is there a kit chassis I could use as a starting point?TIA.
blackbeard Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 you might want to use a firebird pro stock kit to start with
NYLIBUD Posted May 6, 2017 Posted May 6, 2017 The Firebird is a great start. You can also maybe, try the Revell's Pro street 55,and 57 Chevy.Or even the Christine Pro mod cars as another starting point..Good luck.I look forward to seeing the end result. Thanks
mr68gts Posted May 6, 2017 Posted May 6, 2017 Any of the later pro stock kits will work. They havent changed much and the only thing you may need to change is the cage to fit the body. Also depending on how much of a stickler you are for detail and correctness, there may be some reworking/updating to the cage. (Added bars to frame structure for safety and strength.)
bobthehobbyguy Posted May 7, 2017 Posted May 7, 2017 Another source was the Warren Johnson oldsmobile. I believe there was a recent reissue with the Warren Johnson markings. It isnt as wide as the camaro and also its 25th scale.
Force Posted May 7, 2017 Posted May 7, 2017 (edited) I agree with the Oldsmobile chassis as the "modern" Pro Stock Camaro body is quite narrow too. There has been a couple of different issues of the Olds Cutlass Pro Stock kits. The latest issue of the Olds was the Model King white and blue Chill Factor generic race car, before that there was a Jeg Coughlin Jeg's version, a Larry Morgan Castrol Super Clean version and the Warren Johnson GM Performance Parts version. All of them are pretty much the same except for the decals, and the rear wheels got changed for the Jeg's version. crowe-t Posted May 11, 2017 Posted May 11, 2017 (edited) Comp Resins makes a 2012 Pro Stock Camaro in 1/25 scale but it won't be accurate to Erica Enders 2015 Camaro. http://www.compresins.com/site/751597/product/CR-5025 TDR Innovations makes a 2013 Pro Stock Camaro that is far more accurate to Erica's 2015 Camaro. It's available in a variety of scales. https://sites.google.com/site/tdrhtmllearn/home/body-shop/all-tdr-drag-racing-bodies/2013-pro-stock-camaro I'm currently working on a build of Bo Butner's Pro Stock Camaro that he's driving this season. I'm using the Revell/Monogram 1/24 Firebird Pro Stock kit for the chassis, engine... I recently got a TDR Innovations 3D printed 2013 Pro Stock Camaro body in 1/24 scale which is the same wheelbase as the 1/24 Firebird Pro Stock chassis. It's printed in White, Strong & Flexible and does have a sand like texture. The FUD material would have been too brittle for a body and cost twice as much so I got the WSF material. I picked up a can of Duplicolor Filler Primer and started applying some coats and wet sanding with 400 grit sandpaper. After 2 sandings it's almost all smooth. Another couple of coats of primer and one more time sanding should smooth it all out. I also removed the hood scoop and filled in the opening with sheet styrene and some Squadron white putty. It's actually a bit further along than the picture(in primer) I posted but it should give you an idea. Edited May 11, 2017 by crowe-t
crowe-t Posted May 11, 2017 Posted May 11, 2017 (edited) Thanks Henry! It's a little further on now and is smoothing out nicely. Once a couple of coats of high build filler primer is sprayed on and it's sanded it already starts smoothing out. It's a bit more work but definitely worth it. This Pro Stock Camaro from TDR is real nice and accurate looking. Edited May 11, 2017 by crowe-t
futurattraction Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 It's looking good, so far, Michael. I'll be watching!
crowe-t Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 Thanks Scott! I still have to work out a few things. I'll start a thread then.
blackbeard Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 I thought the car had a hood scoop for the championship car
crowe-t Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 Erica's car had the hood scoop. I'm building Bo Butner's car as it appears now and showed the pictures to give Alan an idea.
