in my perfect world im gonna have a multihued crackle effect paint job on one of my projects.  the only "crackle" paint I can find is sold in the uk and cannot b shipped to us...I found crackle nail polish and I think it would give me the look I want.  here goes with questions:

1-can I spray nail polish through the preval paint system?  (ive used an airbrush a little but am far from comfortable with it)

2-I understand to treat nail polish like its lacquer..good primer and thin it bout 50/50 with lacquer thinner, finish with clear lacquer...anything else I need to know?

3-has anybody used the crackle nail polish?

I'm wondering if the crackle stuff will have a 3D texture that will need to be block-sanded if you're using it for a final finish. Just something else to consider.

Looking at google pics of that nail polish, it definitely has got a texture. It looks like it would be huge on a model car and would have to have a lot of clear to smooth it out. I have no idea if thinning it to spray it will change the crackle effect. But its cheap, give it a try :D

A couple of ideas. #1 Rust-Oleum Textured indoor/outdoor paint. I used black for Hemi valve covers and as a vinyl roof, they offer other colors also. If you're going for multi colored effect this may work as a base coat. #2 Krylon Fabulous Finishes Suede. This would be an even finer finish to use as a base. This also works very well for fabric inserts on interior seats and door panels.
