aurfalien Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 (edited) Hi, Futzing with the paint set me back a month. But I'm close and happy wit it now. The blue is, in my opinion, brilliant. It's the Vallejo Model Color line and simply called Blue. My plan is to spray Vallejo Satin Clear, then decal it, then Satin Clear once again. Hope my plans finally turn out I printed a thin Italian flag which I plan to drape length wise on the car, off center for a bit of style. Edited June 28, 2017 by aurfalien
aurfalien Posted June 28, 2017 Author Posted June 28, 2017 Looks great so far! Love that blue.Hi,Thank you sir. It's been a struggle all because I wanted to get too fancy. I sprayed this pretty blue with a transperent blue and it majorly f'd it up. At any rate I learned that if something looks really good, don't mess with it!
Toast Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 Man! I got a blue one in the works and your's is making me shy to show it. That color looks like it's going to be awesome once detailed! The interior and engine look great as well. Love the color combo in the interior.

Dann Tier Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 Hi,Why thank you sir!I'm doing the Italian flag color scheme here and there. Hope I don't screw it up.You wont screw it up.....you're doing great here!!!! -all the details look killer!!, Q: did you use photo etch mesh on the intercoolers?

Dann Tier Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 Hi,Thank you sir!Yep, used the PE on em, I didn't think they would be noticed, glad you did.Yes they do!, I try to only use photo etch when the kit part is inadequate, way out of scale, or for needed strength. in this case, the intercoolers in this kit barely had detail,so I used photo etch as well.
aurfalien Posted July 7, 2017 Author Posted July 7, 2017 Hi, As The World Turns here. So I've been leaving the body on a Tamiya paint stand with the springs set some what medium-high to keep it firmly in place. It gets hot in my work area when I'm gone and noticed 1 side of the body warped out about 1/4" to my horror. So after a few days of on/off heat, I was able to straighten her out but the paint needs a fresh coat. Another painful lesson. Hope to post further pics this weekend.
bytownshaker Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 Love F40LM's and yours is looking great, I'm glad I got to see your other pics before photobucket made their changes.Mine back in the box as I got a run when I cleared the tear lower body panel grrrr. I'll polish it out later.
DiscoRover007 Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 Looking good so far. What's interesting about this kit is that is does not represent an actual f40 lm at all. But if you Google search you will eventually find that this model does match an alternate f40. I think it is actually based off a street version LM prototype or perhaps just an F40 with aftermarket racing options.
aurfalien Posted July 30, 2017 Author Posted July 30, 2017 (edited) Hi, Ok got final paint and decals on. I had clear satin coated it before the decals to seal in the paint. In a few days I'll do another layer to blend and seal in the decals. I'm mostly happy with my printed Italian flag. Went through several until I got it right. I now know what not to do with this particular decal paper. Once final coated, then some assembly and done. I can't wait. Hopefully be next weekend or end of week, exciting! aurfalien Posted August 1, 2017 Author Posted August 1, 2017 Hi,Why thank you sir!I'm excited but made many mistakes.Based on all the builds I've seen here, I'm the most junior of modelers. But learning.
Twokidsnosleep Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 I agree with everyone, great paint and decals!! Gonna be a stunner
aurfalien Posted August 3, 2017 Author Posted August 3, 2017 Hi,Why thank you!It means a lot to this struggling builder. While I sprayed a test body very well with the varnish, my actual car came out a little different. Fortunately I was able to remove the grain but am watching many videos before I do my final varnish coat over the decals.I'll do test shot on the inside of the body at 18-20PSI, closer and my trigger moderately pulled back. I have a tendency to pull the AB trigger all the way back when spraying which release a boat load of paint.
Mixalz Posted August 3, 2017 Posted August 3, 2017 Sexy car to say the least. Love the decal work.I haven't had any experience with Vallejo varnishes but having used Tamiya T-13, Alclads Klear Kote/s and Gunze Mr Super Clear I can say the paint chosen will have a massive impact. I've found decanted Mr Super Clear to be the most user friendly. Sorry I can't help about the Vallejo!
