Scale-Master Posted January 26, 2019 Author Posted January 26, 2019 The rear window is installed. More machined hardware to hold it all together.
Scale-Master Posted January 27, 2019 Author Posted January 27, 2019 I started the steering wheel over a week ago. Being 0.032 inches thick it took 8 days to acid cut the brass parts out. Due to that extended time the cuts came out a bit rougher, but that issue will be dealt with later. Seven pieces soldered together.
Scale-Master Posted January 27, 2019 Author Posted January 27, 2019 Corrected the center of it. Added a little more material to the spokes for the grip and am continuing to fine tune/shape them.
Scale-Master Posted January 29, 2019 Author Posted January 29, 2019 I machined the rim for the steering wheel from 7075 aluminum.
Scale-Master Posted January 30, 2019 Author Posted January 30, 2019 The brass center and aluminum ring are melded together. Front: Back:
Belugawrx Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 Wow nice blending there Mark,...the details are amazing Cheers
Scale-Master Posted January 31, 2019 Author Posted January 31, 2019 Thanks Bruce! I milled a license plate frame from some resin I cast into a blank first. I used dye to make it gray when I mixed it, this hasn't been primed yet. Front: Back:
Scale-Master Posted February 3, 2019 Author Posted February 3, 2019 (edited) A mix of pearl white and silver was shot to match the reflective finish on the face of real plate. (The back was painted flat silver.) I made a decal that was applied to the front for the lettering. Edited February 3, 2019 by Scale-Master
Lordmodelbuilder Posted February 3, 2019 Posted February 3, 2019 Looking good Mark! I am surprised you didn't go with the new/old black & yellow plates that seem to be on every new car these days.
Scale-Master Posted February 3, 2019 Author Posted February 3, 2019 (edited) Thanks Brad. I thought about it, but I like the reflective look better. I painted the spokes of the wheel metallic gray then built up the black with Tamiya Smoke for a subtle gloss anodized black look. Still need to finish the rim. Edited February 3, 2019 by Scale-Master
Scale-Master Posted February 6, 2019 Author Posted February 6, 2019 I made and added the tags. The year tag is the actual sticker material from one of my real cars with a custom made decal for the details.
John Teresi Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 Mark.....really remarkable how you do the plates ....looking good!!!
Scale-Master Posted February 6, 2019 Author Posted February 6, 2019 Thanks John, and now it only takes about three weeks to make one.
Scale-Master Posted February 6, 2019 Author Posted February 6, 2019 Phillips head stove bolts to hold the steering wheel to the coupler.
Scale-Master Posted February 7, 2019 Author Posted February 7, 2019 Crush sleeve and mounting nut for steering wheel/shaft.
Scale-Master Posted February 8, 2019 Author Posted February 8, 2019 I decided I could do better. So I made a new flange and nut with broached splines so the flange will fit onto the shaft like a real one.
Scale-Master Posted February 9, 2019 Author Posted February 9, 2019 The welting for the fenders was cut from flat black vinyl. Taillights are installed and the fenders mounted to the body. The same material as used to make the welting was cut for the stone guards.
Scale-Master Posted February 9, 2019 Author Posted February 9, 2019 The steering shaft was threaded through the header and into the rack & pinion. Then the scratch-built dash was installed.
Scale-Master Posted February 10, 2019 Author Posted February 10, 2019 The beginning of the spare tire hold down. PE frame and milled resin handle; brass hinge pin.
Scale-Master Posted February 11, 2019 Author Posted February 11, 2019 The headlights have been installed and wired. I made bulbs for the parking lights too. Radiator is installed. More electrical wiring getting done…
gasser59 Posted February 11, 2019 Posted February 11, 2019 (edited) I'd swear this is a 1:1 vehicle, maybe put a coin in the picture every once in a while. The details abound on this Mark. Crazy good!! Edited February 12, 2019 by gasser59
Scale-Master Posted February 12, 2019 Author Posted February 12, 2019 Thanks Brad! I'll bring back the "Big Ruler" for some shots. We have ignition, wires… They will be routed properly after the carbs are installed. Also added the ground point for the battery, the clutch hydraulic line and some more oil lines.
John Teresi Posted February 12, 2019 Posted February 12, 2019 Mark....I can really appreciate the Eye Candy....,your talents are remarkable .....stunning model
Anglia105E Posted February 12, 2019 Posted February 12, 2019 Mark..... This scale model Gulf Seven has everything..... and right there we have the steering column shaft and coupling, ' like a real one ' ( your words ). Phillips head screws on the steering wheel...... the license plate detail is excellent..... this is the way to do it properly. David
