El Caballo Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 This is Jim Doss' Impala, restyled and dechromed by Watson. A marked improvement over stock. The '59 Pontiac Catalina tail lights are a nice touch. doss.htm
StevenGuthmiller Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 A marked improvement over stock. That's debatable, & purely a matter of taste.Personally, I think that a lot of the cars character is lost by removing everything that tells you that it's an Impala. Steve

StevenGuthmiller Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 stock is nice, kustom is nice. Both are nice . True. And I do agree that it looks nice, especially since they didn't chop the body all up & left alone the general lines of the car. Steve

Steve and with a car like a 58 impala, you could smash it flat , and still know its a 58 impala. Not so much with a 2017 model !
MrObsessive Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 Great looking paint Steve! As far as '50's cars, I can't knock any of them as those were the first cars I can remember seeing when I first new what a car was! It's all relative I guess to when you first arrive on this planet. 50 years from now believe it or not, today's cars will be collectibles.
Slotto Posted July 25, 2017 Author Posted July 25, 2017 Thanks everyone! It's been about 24 hours since the poly has been applied. I rubbed out the body, doors and hood with a spent dryer sheet. This took out all the tiny imperfections and left a finish as slippery as wet glass. And also left a fresh scent. I'm happy with it. Now on to the rest of the build... Stay Tuned...
Slotto Posted September 1, 2017 Author Posted September 1, 2017 Life is getting in the way and I can't spend as much time with my cars as I want to lately but I did find some time to work on the motor. I got some stuff done on the interior too and wanted to see what it looked like together. I'll either use the bench seats and ditch the console or dig up some buckets.I'm not really feeling the console. Stay Tuned...
espo Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Great looking build and I really like the color combo. Have you considered using the kit's bench seat , cut it apart and make bucket seats if you stay with the consul ?? This way you would have a matching seat pattern to the rear seats.
Slotto Posted September 1, 2017 Author Posted September 1, 2017 Yeah, i was toying with that idea because of the pattern. Thanks for the encouragement.
Slotto Posted September 3, 2017 Author Posted September 3, 2017 I decided to use the bench seat even though I wanted buckets that matched the rear seats. So I cut the bench seat into 2 pieces then I had to take a piece out of each of the new buckets so they would fit in the car when the doors are closed. shown here with filler to hide the seams. The interior is buttoned up The pipes have been layed Bright work is done glass and interior is installed I'm not going to use the Boyd Coddington wheels. It's gonna be a surprise and I think you'll like it. Stay Tuned...
espo Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Your bucket seat conversion turned out perfect. I like the look enough that I will try this on an up coming build.
Slotto Posted September 4, 2017 Author Posted September 4, 2017 Dude, I wasnt sure i would be able to pull it off. Thanks for encouraging me to do it.
Slotto Posted September 9, 2017 Author Posted September 9, 2017 My advenures with 3D Printing. Our Public Library just acquired three 3D Printers. It all starts with a design. This was done in Sketchup. It is a sketch of the front wheel sleeve. When finished, I take the file to another program called MeshLab. This will convert to something that the Library's software will understand. From there I need to load it on one of their Macs using the Maker software. This will add the printer characteristics that the printer needs like scaling, where on the plate it is placed and so on. Then it's off to the printer. I saved the file onto a flash drive and plugged it right in. Here's the center section I drew up. After some clean up the pieces can go together. After they are joined together. Eyeballing under my latest build. I'm not planning on using these for the 58. Stay Tuned...
Mercuryman54 Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 Very, very nice!!! I'm a Ford man but 58's are my favorite Chevys. Dennis
Slotto Posted November 20, 2017 Author Posted November 20, 2017 (edited) Back to the drawing board. I printed up a few more styles. The plan is to print the centers separately from the sleeves. Stay Tuned... Edited December 2, 2017 by Slotto
Slotto Posted December 13, 2017 Author Posted December 13, 2017 I finally found some decent wheels for this build. They were on a Jada diecast Suburban at Wally World. Plus, the truck came with a second set of mags and low profile tires. Should be finished in the next couple of days. Stay Tuned...
shoopdog Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Anxiously waiting the finished build with the new wheels although the stock wheels and tires look fine.
