This time  I went a bit a  far away from the orginal idea of auto quiz. I was looking for a special build of a Porsche 911. In 1966 a Porsche 911 was given by Porsche to the Car Design Department at the University of Aachen. The aim was to create a pure racing car with a folding roof. The result was the Porsche 911 HLS Klappdach

It seems that Porsche in Zuffenhaussen wasn't that happy how the car came out. The stored it for 40 years  and it was forgotten until 2015.

Winners are:

Ace-Garageguy

Matt Bacon

Well done

No idea. It looks dreadful in a way I can't imagine any manufacturer endorsing.

Can't wait to find out what it is.

And indeed, they didn't endorse it! My first searches specifically excluded Porsche, so, needless to say, I wasn't having much luck.

Now I know what it is, I can see the clues Ace-Garageguy refers to. I can also see why Porsche left it outside in the rain for 40 years.

Yeah, I never imagined anyone would attempt such a thing on a 911. Like another band trying to cover a Beatles song - it just isn't going to work.

So we'll overlook the fact that this isn't a production car 'cause it was so interesting.

It looks like it might have been a road car not a 'pure' racer which may explain why when I passed through Aachen in '68 the streets were deserted.

Keep 'em coming Michael!
