Cool project.  Did you do any surface filling before sanding or just a high-build primer?  Also, I wonder if it might've been easier to cut that rear spoiler off and fab it up from sheet styrene since it's mostly flat panels?

No I just sprayed it with filler primer.I really didn't think there was so much sanding items that came out of a 3D printer. No,but it's ok..I'm going to use a finer paper now,800,then probably 1000.Again,it's just a model, but I still hope I don't screw or up.?.But if I do,I'll buy another body, and try it again. As I said,I ain't no expert model builder.I think I'm ok,but as I've already said, there's pros on here.Ah I just do the best I can.Now as far as the wing. That came with the package I ordered, but I did have to install it.However, again,Shapeways sells all different scales, and packages. You can buy the Nova with everything together,or with the doors, front end, trunk),all removed for you.You can get a scoop,or get a hood/front end without one.Shapeways.com makes so many pro mod Drag cars, cages, and engines.Just google them. Its wild stuff.

What was the cost of the that body 3D printed?

I've not yet worked with a 3D printed body , only small parts

It looks like a cool project

Shapeways.com. I'm pretty sure it was under $50.But they carry different packages,at different prices. And it takes a lot of filler and sanding to get the body right...But it's fun.

So I  added another coat of filler primer on the car.Waited for awhile, and then went back to sanding. But it's getting there..And like I said before,I kind of find the sanding to be fun,for lack of a better word.

This may or may not work. What about a skim coat of 3M glazing and spot putty, Then sanding with 800 grit and higher?

Trevor

This is actually the best way to go about making this body usable. Back a few few years ago, I did a post that showed how to deal with 3d printed parts and the difference in types of printer. I built my own printers and used them as examples, but the principles are still the same. Here's a link to that post: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/101922-1935-lasalle-convertible-coupe-3d-printed-at-home-aug-30/?page=1

Hey Trevor,I probably will try that idea. But like I said,it's just a model.I may even turn it into Drag slot car.

Thanks

Nice looking Nova. I too did not realize there was that much sanding for 3D printed bodies. I have ZERO experience with 3D printers but I have been creating 3D models for 15 years except for cars. I find cars the hardest thing to model.

I have a few 3D cars models as works in progress, but I get restless with them. Modeling a building or spaceship is easy compared to cars, especially if you are trying to accurately recreate a real life year, make and model.

There is a thread under general where this subject is being discussed. I think that the quality have improved with the newer printers, note that this thread is from 2017. Still some work is needed, much more than resin or plastic I guess.
