ranma Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 As the hard top hasn't been reissued , and the price of getting one on ebay is outta reach for me. I had a '70 Impala "donate" it's roof for use on this '70 Bonneville, I know it's not 100% correct but a heck of a lot cheaper for me.
peekay Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 Good idea with the roof - I think I like it better than the correct one.
disabled modeler Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 That is cool Rick..! I wish I could find the HTs body and glass to restore the one I have....big classy looking cars are cool..!
DumpyDan Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 Well done, did the same thing but I think I used a GTO roof, it has been awhile. Your's looks good I like it.
rickcaps55 Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 Hi I like the look of the Chevy roof on the Bonneville it looks more formal GM should have used it. I used the roof from the 70 Buick and made it in to a Catalina with some trim change.
geetee66 Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 That looks great! I'm no expert on these cars, but to me, your conversion looks factory.
Tom Geiger Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 (edited) Nice work Rick! Just for the record, here's Time Machine Resin's repop of the original 1970 coupe. I don't know current availability, I bought this back when Model King first brought back the Bonnie convertible / boat kit. Also wanted to say that Chevrolet put both style roofs on the 1970 full size car. The kit represents the formal roof, which I agree looks great on the Chevy as well as Rick's Pontiac. I had a 1:1 Impala with that roof back in the day. Here's the formal roof that Rick took from the 1970 kit, that was carried over from the 1969 kit shown here. The fastback roof as shown here on a 1967 Chevy, was also available on the 1969-70 Chevys, I've seen where someone on the boards put this top on the 1970 Chevy body. It also looked very nice. Can-Con Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 Tom, that '67/'68 fastback roof was only available those two years, not after that. You must be thinking of the roof on the Pontiac hardtop kit like the resin one you posted. ,,BTW, I see Time Machine is selling that body on e-bay. Rick, nice conversion. I can imagine it's what Pontiac would have done if they had kept the Grand Prix on the full size body.

Great to hear Time Machine is still offering that body. Especially with the convertible recently available again. I stand corrected on the roof line... See below from the 1969 Chevy brochure. I do remember someone planting the '67 Chevy roof onto a '70 Impala and it being a rather pleasing result. If the builder of that car sees this, please post a picture! I checked E-bay t.m. resin don't have a 70 Bonneville listed..... So I wrote him Via E-bay, He no longer cast the '70 Bonneville hardtop... Edited August 20, 2017 by ranma
