Show will debut on NBC in the fall, the hosts will be

Adam Carolla:  I'll give him a chance since he's a car guy (The Clarkson of the group)

Tanner Foust: an actual Race car driver. he's the 2007 Formula D Drifting champion, he has Ice racing championships. and he hosts "supercars exposed" on SPEED (The true STIG of the group, though no word on who will be "THE STIG")

Eric Stromer: another  he's a construction guy. no racing experience. (that I've read of), and he currently hosts a HGTV show. (kind of a mix between May and Hammond)

I know this show will not be the UK show (which season 11 starts this Sunday (I'll be watching the Torrent Monday afternoon)), but I'm going to give it a chance. the show has been developed by the creaters of the UK show, and I know Clarkson was stateside for a few weeks developing it. its being produced by the same guys who brought us Mythbusters and Overhaulin.

The only questions left are who will be "THE STIG", and what will be the Reasonably priced car (Chevy Cobalt maybe? since the UK show uses a Chevrolet Optra/ Daewoo Lacetti )

I can imagine it now.

I don't think the US version of the Prius show, which I thought was hallarious would fly in the States.

Wouldn't want to insult anyone, and it pretty much spells out how much of a moron you are to buy one.

Or the druablity of the Porsche 911, which they drove into a house a couple times and some other objects. It just kept going and going, in fact they did more damage to the rock wall they hit than the car.

The Porsche challenge is good too. V6 and 3/4 engine LOL

I dont think the upskirt would fly either.

yup

Cal, you think NANSCARS are death traps...still think it's a death trap.......batteries.....explosions......volts....... B):)

they would be better off just syndicating Top Gear here.

And it's not even bulletproof LMAO.

a couple of my favorites are the lawn darts where they launch old clunkers into a rock quarry usuing a huge air gun, trying for a bullseye with a camper in the middle,

and all the ways they tried to kill that red diesel toyota truck, thats is classic, and it still runs!!!!!!!!!

If it's hockey instead of soccer.... <_<:)

Now there is a brilliant idea. Car Hockey.

I have been thinking about this for a few days now and I have come to this conclusion.

The show, Fifth Gear, is like to be a total failure. Not withstanding, the copy is never as good as the original.

The title alone is troublesome, why fifth gear? What about all the three, four, and six speed cars?

In any event, I have heard this Adam, and I must say nowhere near as charismatic as Jeremy, not that he is overly charismatic himself. However the English do have a way with words.

I don’t know these other blokes from Adam, but there is a certain dynamic that really works well on Top Gear, the pattern for Fifth Gear. That is the nice thing about Top Gear is you don’t need to be a racing car driver (Cpt. Slow). Need I say more?

They would probably better off with just some regular guy, or girl for that matter, that no one knows or has heard of with a passion for cars, which is all you really need.

Moreover, they (TG) have it absolutely right. It isn’t about the car, how fast, how good, how technically advanced it is. It is about how it makes you feel when you are driving it, and then being able to pour that out onto the screen.

Not to mention it already has had a troubled start. The pilot was supposed be shown in March, and it is now June and not a single frame has been shot.

I know NBC said that they wouldn’t censor the honest opinions of the host, but I just don’t see that happening on Network TV. I suspect that Network TV is just to stiff and structured to pull off a good Top Gear (TG) clone, which isn’t that polished. However, that is the beauty of TG like all good British TV it is a little rough around the edges, but that is what gives it’s immense charm.

Then there is the show itself, which I can see it being hampered by all kind of other technicalities, safety issues (which apparently are virtually nonexistent in the UK) and practicalities.

And whom are they going to be bashing! In an overly pretentious PC social climate I am not sure that they will even be allowed to bash themselves or each other – another quality of the show that works very well.

I do hope I am wrong – I think in a lot of ways Supercars Exposed was trying to live in the shadows of Top Gear, but it was dreadfully boring by and large.

I, too, will give it a chance, but that is my prediction. I would have loved to been a fly on the wall when Clarkson and the NBC guys were discussing the development.

Top Gear is extremely entertaining for far to many reasons to list here and now, so Fifth Gear has a very high benchmark, which may be unreachable by Network TV.

Will it have the charismatic magic of TG, or will their diamond turn to dust?

I wonder how many times that they (NBC excs) said, "Oh no, We can't do that."?

Chris, Supercars Exposed, I don't think is geared toward that, it's more of a show that just caters to Supercars, just showing them off, not a general car show.

I like Tanner Foust, which is also the host of that show, he is a very talented and winning driftter. ;)

It was in the same vain.

Yeah, but is he entertaining?

I hope it is good, but I fear it's not.

I fear a US version will be dreadful and sanitized. I'm not optimistic. I can't wait for BBC America to start showing some new episodes...they seem to be just running a few episodes over and over every Monday night..

Well it looks like Top Gear started a new season, when does the American one start?:lol:

Well it was supposed to be this past spring (March), but that didn't happen because what they wanted, Jeremy Clarkson, turned the offer down, and then there were some other delays. The host Adam didn't officially get the offer until a few weeks ago, and are said to be shooting soon. The pilot is supposed to air in the fall.

It has had kind of a rocky start already.

They announced the the "reasonably priced car". its a Kia Rio. and the first two guests will be Howie Mandel, and Melanie B (from the Spice Girls), both have shows with NBC affiliation. I think they could've done a little better with the stars they choose even from the NBC range of shows. like Steve Carrell or Jason Lee
