Just wanted to see how many of you are buying less hobby related items because of gas prices?

Do you buy online more to save the travel of going to a hobbyshop and find out that what you needed is not in stock?

How many just have stated to take kits out of the pile and build those instead of getting new kits because the gas prices

have tapped in to your modeling fund?

I know that the gas prices will limit the events I attend. Hope to be at ACME NNL.

Considering the fact that I only build one or two models a year, I would say that it doesn't make a difference. :D Fortunately, I have a very good LHS and a Hobby Lobby just a few minutes from the office, so I don't really use much gas to get there. I just swing by when I go out to eat lunch so it will only cost a few cents in gas. I don't got to many shows either, the only one I go to on a regular basis is in Cookeville, about 30 minutes from the house.

Gas prices still such though. :D

I'm buying less, in fact I'm selling off most of my collection. However it has nothing to do with gas prices. Even at 4$/gal and driving a big car gas is a relatively small portion of my monthly budget, and especially when you just factor in the price difference between $3 and $4 gas, the recent price hikes really haven't had a significant impact on my daily financial decisions. The desire to eliminate my debt is what's driving my hobby related purchasing decisions, (or rather lack thereof) lately.

I wish i was young again. It is nice to see that we have some young people building models.

I was under the impression that we are all old farts.

Gas isn't cutting in to my modeling funds. I buy less of the net now as I've done all of my ebay spending getting the OOP kits that I wanted from years gone by between building and not. I now only buy the new kits I want and supplies at the LHS.

Hasn't affected me much, I have been buying only the new releases as they come out for a while now. I don't put many miles on my cars, so I only fill up once every 3 weeks or so......

Oh, it's puttin' a hurtin' on me. DISCLAIMER: I know I'm gonna take a beating for this, but...I drive a 1997 Z/28 8 miles to work and back and my wife drives a 2004 supercharged Monte Carlo 100 miles a day round trip to work and back. both of these cars require at least 82 octane (premum) gas. I can get away with a fill-up once every two weeks and be fine if I limit my travels to be very local. However, she has to fill up more often than once a week. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, but I'd like to be able to go to a club meeting or show/swap meet and blow a hundred bucks without a second thought again. Not gonna happen anytime soon.

The good: I have a fat stash to choose from when I need something to build.

The bad: I want more.

The ugly: I will probably blow too much money at the next MAMAS BOYZ meeting and suffer the wraith of my beautiful wife who just now gave me an unexpected kiss on the cheek. Last one of those for a while!

I have so far spended about half this year compared to what I spend last year..I spend well over 4,000 on kits & supplies last year and less than 200.00 bucks this year so far..its not just gas prices, its food, insurance, taxes, health problems and so on. I don't see this getting any better either and with gas prices expected to reach 5 bucks by Aug and the price of stupid corn going up faster and hurricane season has not even started yet....

Got to stash money away for emergencys and improve my security. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted huh?

I still think this hobbie is one of the cheapest comparing it to fishing, boating ,golf etc. but THE GAS SITUATION affects everything. I feel guilty when I go to the hobbie shop now ,before I felt like a kid in the candy store, that feeling has changed. When at the end of the month I am short on the rent....you wich you had those dollars back. I have to budget for every project I am doing. I am using everything I have left over and I am going to dollar stores more to improvised aftermarket stuff.....I have boxes of models to last me untill I turn 60 and I am half way there....but I see my self working more, multiple jobs, doing overtime and this has affect the time to seat and work on my projects.

YES THIS SITUATION SUCKS...but I need to keep building It's my "ME TIME" like my wife calls it.

It helps me clear my mind so I can deal with REAL LIFE the next day.

$4 per gallon gas is NOTHING compared to the $20 per gallon it cost me for R/C model airplane fuel! Now THAT"s getting up there!!

I usually combine stops and consolidate my running around when we go into town. One vehicle gets 35 MPG and the other 18 MPG...guess which one goes to town on a regular basis? It certainly requires some re-thinking when long trips to the various model shows are at stake. Anyone remember when gas was 20 cents a gallon? Heck, back then I was lucky to afford two gallons at a time so I guess it's all in how you look at it.... ;) Joe

I had planned on several entries for the Heartland Nationals in Kansas City this weekend. But time didn't allow those projects to be anywhere completed. So Plan B was to drive the 70 miles to KC to view entries. But the price of gas will put Plan C into action. That means I will attend church as always and spend the afternoon at home. But the bottom line is the fact the price of gas won't really affect my modelling. We went on vacation two weeks ago. We spent 23 hours in 7 airports trying to reschedule 13.5 hours of flying. I' m ready to stay home.

I'm spending more. It's cheaper than going out for entertainment, and with the economy what it is I would rather support my LHS than spend my $ elsewhere. Nice thing is that I notice more people in the store these days. I'm figuring that now is the time to put out a little more towards my hobby rather than keep it in the bank, see the LHS go out of business, and have to buy online anyway. My daughter works in a restaurant and has seen several of their competitors go out of business and therefore her business has picked up. And good ol' G.W.'s incentive will fund several new projects!

I spend around $35 per week and my wife does around $60 a week on gas, mostly going back and forth to work. I really haven't been buying that many models for the past few years, I'm well stocked. Trips to my LHS are for glues, paints mostly and other supply items.

When I do go out on the road for shows, I car pool with my brother and we take a car that is good on gas. I save up for events like the NNL East and other big $hows.

So far the gas prices haven't cut into my modeling funds. I have cut back on things that I really don't need for the most part.

Never! I'm more concerned with the rising costs of everything that we use in this hobby. Kits, paint, even the 1:1 mags I use for reference and inspiration have gone up. I have a pretty large stash of all of the above, but I always need more.
