I always do it before clear coat. Because sometimes it can lose it's adhesiveness, and come off, especially after handling it a few times. So the clearcoat seals it onto the body. Problem solved.

I do it after.

Spraying gloss over it can cause it to lose a bit of it's shine.

Plus, if you polish your models, the clear does not adhere well to the foil & can flake off during the polishing process.

I like to use it last. As was mentioned above sometimes clear can actually dull the shine.  Also I will lightly sand the areas that it will be applied to during my wet sanding and polishing of the clearcoat,  and it seems to help it adhere better.  I've got models that are 10 or 15 years old and the bare metal foil is still on them firmly .

Really? I did my first BMF job in the early 80's and it still looks great. No need to seal it, protect it, etc. Unless you will be displaying them outside in  rain, snow, hail, bright sun, etc. I always apply BMF AFTER clear coating and polishing out the paint.
