1924 Delage GP - a what ?

Now there’s enough done on the chassis to epoxy the body to the chassis frame - the parafilm is wrapped around to persuade the body to stay put while the epoxy set - the steering wheel will be added later - same w the exhausts -

There is a brace that runs from the top of the radiator back to the engine bulkhead - thats made from a length of  brass rod and .07 mil nickel tube - had some neat little O-rings - from Ebay I think - they were used to secure a length of tin .014 wire - that’s the water temp line.

With the brace in place its time to connect the fuel lines and the other wires feeding into the bulkhead …

The exhaust pipe is glued on with epoxy - its got pegs that secure it really well to the cyl head  - thats credit to Pico’s design - and it just fits below the brace …

the good news is that i don’t have to shave this week - and i can watch the TT Isle of Man Bike races in MAVTV  !

oh, and I’ve got  some time to assemble the rear suspension …. Thats nice …

The parts were made a long while ago - but the assembly had to wait until the body was glued to the frame …. The shocks are a little askew but once its done it should hold up …. I needed strength because of the weight of the model  -  this metal is a little heavier than white metal …. Denser ?  Pico mite know …

Before i’m done with  the rear suspension I’ve fitted the wheels and tires just to make sure that the Delage sits square ….  It does - big relief ….  Now back to the COVID meds ….

must be feeling better since I’m posting this on farmer’s hours …

we’ll call this the “Master Club castle nut on a stick post” -  the Master Club bolts are printed with bolt dimensions that are a bit too thick for scale and sometimes without enough scale length for suspension parts - but no one else seems to make the castle nuts so I’ve been experimenting with ways to make scale castle nuts out of the bolt castings …

So i mount the bolts into a pin vise - nice and tight - remove the bolt printing - and drill open the center - in this case i’m using the 1.6 mil castle bolt and drilling a .035 in hole …. Then onto the tooth pick for Sharpie painting and safe keeping - this is hit and miss - you’ll mess some up - but the master club bolts are sold with dozens of bolts in each package… and yes I’m Optivisoring the whole deal …

the bonnett race number didnt quite hug the first louver - even with lots of Micro Sol - so i opened the section of the decal that never quite snuggled into the  recess and added some white acrylic paint - and since these numbers were brush painted anyway - this is looks fine …

Tire valves - .012 brass wire with an .020 R B Motion nut - epoxied onto a short length of .020 rod …. Thank you Mr Bentley …

Been thinking about the

finish on the tires - I like the Tamiya rubber black - these would have been made from actual rubber - but the Grand Prix were held - still in ‘24 - on unpaved courses - so I dirtied up the suspension leaf bindings and I’m thinking that I want to add some dust/mud/clay/cinder to the tire treads - and maybe some oil stains to the sidewall ?

Im masking and spray painting the number because - in my test with brush painting - the paint fulls the grill openings - so …

The Tamiya flat white lacquer paint is dry almost as soon as I finished clearing my airbrush - ill attach the grill once im done handling the final parts apps …

Its hard to tell whether the Delage did the French GP without a windscreen - or with the w/screen placed against the cowling - I’ll do a windscreen as on the restored car - and just set it on the cowling …

No West Adams here....Adams and North Adams. But yes, very pretty in October/early November, and they'll get you with hotel rooms and such. That's when a lot of the people there make their money for the year. The rest of the time it's a pretty tough-up area unless you're one of the very wealthy families in Williamstown.

I love that grille lettering. When I was 11, I built the Lindberg 1/16 Stutz Bearcat, and numbered the radiator. For a kid and very low-tech kit, it came out pretty nice. I'm looking for another one of those now to build, and display it as a then/now with improved building skills. I'd like to think I learned something over the last thirty+ years.
