RichCostello Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 I just got an old Jo-Han 62 Dart and the dash in the kit looks different than the ones in pics on Google. Is it the wrong one ? Also, some of the pics show the tail lights with the red lights on the top spot, and others show them on the lower one. Which way is right? I'm thinking about bashing it with a Lindberg 64 330 for chassis, and engine, etc. has anybody tried this, and how much of a pain is it? Thanks for any help.

Is it the wrong one ? Unfortunately, Johan did this with a lot of their later "USA Oldies" re-releases. There are several of the USA Oldies kits that have the wrong interiors due to lost or damaged molds Steve
RichCostello Posted January 9, 2018 Author Posted January 9, 2018 So, above the tail light, is that just a chrome trim piece? I thought it might be a back up light.

RichCostello Posted January 9, 2018 Author Posted January 9, 2018 Thanks Steve, I guess I can go either way. I want to turn it into a 2 door post, base model on the 64 chassis, with the Color Me Gone engine.

The '63-'64s had a 3" longer wheelbase than the '62s, so plan on doing a tiny bit of lengthening if you use the Lindberg chassis. The '67 Dodge Coronet has the same 116" wheelbase as the '62 Dart ('62 was considered the first intermediate B-body), so the Revell '67 Dodge Coronet R/T or '67 Charger is probably a better choice, and the wheelbases should match up without modification.
RichCostello Posted January 9, 2018 Author Posted January 9, 2018 Thanks Casey, I'll have to check that out.
ChrisBcritter Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 Rich, unfortunately the '62 Dodge reissues (USA Oldies series) came with a '64 Dodge interior bucket and a '63 Dodge dash. Keep your eyes on eBay; original issues pop up now and then. Here's what the correct one looks like (ignore the rear speaker):

Steve By 1962, backup lights were standard on most makes of cars, in their highest trim level--but they were also an available option on lesser versions.

Charger has a different fuel tank/spare tire well area, so avoid it unless you have one on the shelf and are willing to modify it rather than buy another kit. I'd probably go with the Lindberg underbody even though it has a couple of glitches (widened rear wheel tubs, "too new" rear axle). One of the Moebius Plymouth kits might be worth a look too. Pricey for a parts donor, but the Jo-Han Mopars are getting thin on the ground, and are worth the effort and expense to get a better end result. If you sell on eBay or at swap meets, you might be able to sell the leftover body to a slot car guy (or buy a leftover chassis from one). The Lindberg interior could be modified to fit the '62. When you are swapping underbodies to get more detail, why mess with the one-piece blob interior?

Yeah, I think I'll try the Lindberg 64 chassis, I don't mind the wide wheel tubs or axle, I'm not doing it stock anyway. Just eyeballing it, the wheelbase looks pretty close, and I have a junk Color Me Gone kit that I want to use the engine from. I never thought about the interior, I'd like to have the plain bench in the 64, so I might have to try that too. Thanks for the info.
