Awesome.....picked one up last night and went back for two more today after diggin through the kit. I have noticed that some other board's members have tried to put the kit ina a bad "spotlight" I say get over it and go build something....Anywho,o who is going to cast some hoods? I tried the hoods I have for the AMT Nova and they come up short, I may adjust one just to get a build under my belt, but an nicely fitting hood would be cool...

So who's in to make that Stinger Hood for the 69 Harrell Nova's?

It looks good to me and I am going to build one or two.

Kind of a bummer about the gas tank, and the rear wheel opening seems a little too square, but it's vast improvement over what we had.

the new kit is nice, but it isn't perfect. kudo's to Revell for bringing it out and finally we have something that is quite accurate for the most part. there just seems to me to be some areas that got passed over as "good enough" that should have had more refinement. the gas tank thing is also a big goof up and was pointed out by me when i saw the preview build here. you may say so what about the tank, but what if they had put the distributor in the front of the engine? my point is they could have and should have fixed it before the kit was put out.

the aftermarket is going to have a field day with this one for sure though! it will be very interesting to see what kind of goodies we will have to build all different versions of this car. although i dont like how some things were done, i'm going to buy at least a case more of them.

Dave,

What's the issue with the gas tank?

It's rotated 90 degrees from its correct orientation.

180 degrees

since kits cost more then 5 years ago (I remember paying $10.99 for the Revell 66 Chevelle wagon when they came out), the cheap hobby store in my area wants $18.99 for the Revell Nova. people will nit pick about kits more and more. one thing about us car modelers is that we are cheap .

I do think the wheel wells are a bit more squared off then should be, its something I noticed when I first got the kit. but its a very small problem. I'm not going to even worry about correcting it. its not that big of a deal. majority of people who build this kit won't even notice since the 1:1 seem to have a bit of a squareness to them.

oops... Guess I'm not much of a mathmetician. You're right, 180. As in all the way around.

You don't even want to know how bad the internet would break if Revell had done the tank at "only" 90 degrees off

The gas tank thing really doesn't bother me in the least ... it is, indeed, a little curious that this happened, especially on a kit that is so otherwise superbly done, but, I just don't see it as a big deal because the gas tank isn't a focal point on a model like this one. If it really bugs you, you could always cut it out and flip it around. Me, I'll probably just paint mine and move along.

Let's see ... Revell's kit has a flip-flopped gas tank ... AMT's has a grossly misshapen body that resembles a Nova only in passing. Plus it has those PITA separate front fenders. The winner by knockout? Revell!

I'd be interested to know how that happened too... They have had some weird stuff happen in the past. I am sure there is a story there.

Possibly they used a restored car as reference??? A restored car with the gas tank installed backwards!

I know there have been kits in the past that were based on incorrectly restored prototypes, and the kit included the 1:1 car's mistakes!

What can I say...I'm an artist, it's the whole "left brain-right brain" thing...and the half of my brain that DOES work doesn't do math!!!

(please refrain from any "half-wit" comments...way too easy! )

A good example of that would be Protar's 250 GTO. A kit made of a restored car that was wrecked, and the restoration was incorrect.

Another example is AMT's recent '62 Thunderbird--the 1:1 they used had an aftermarket rubstrip on the sides, IIRC..

Yeah, it was wacked really hard in the rear and they took some liberties when they rebuilt it.

Nevertheless, it IS accurate for that car.

However, there is no real way you could put the tank in a Nova restoration backwards. The filler neck is part of the tank, welded on, and there is only one way it can go.

If I had to guess, somewhere along the way someone looked at the photo or drawing upside down.

You'd have to do a lot of fighting and swearing to install a 1/1 Nova gas tank backwards, not to mention refueling from and through the back seat

I can live with the small inaccuracies. I just wish they would have included steelies and dogdish hubcaps like they did in the new Charger kit. I cant wait to get one of these,OK maybe two,no ......three, yeah three that may be enough for now.

From what I recall on that kit, you're partially right. I remember reading it was a "dealer installed option" introduced about midway through the 62 model run, or it was a "dealer installed option" from the beginning of the model run that was picked up by Ford as a factory option about midway through the 62 model run, I honestly forget which is correct in what I read.

Whatever the source, all I remember when I saw the kit for the first time was saying "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot are those doing there?"

Might as well have been a swan hood ornament, fugly wheels and tires, a GT wing or massive "boomerang" antenna on the deck..don't mess with the clean classic lines on the Rocketbird like that!
