935k3 Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 I would like to get it but Tamiya's prices are going through the roof.
Gt fan Posted January 29, 2018 Author Posted January 29, 2018 I know. ...but at lease you get a bit more detail than the resin kits. Hobbyeasy.com is the best place to get there stuff. The prices are very good
Jhedir6 Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 It's not Tamiya on pricing its the licencing. Here in Canada the Tamiya F1 kits are pretty much $80-100 now due to licencing. The last F1 kit, Red Bull one, was like $97 retail here. And I'm sure most of that was due to the licence fees. I dont mind paying more for a Tamiya kit, their engineering is great and makes it that much easier to build it into a good looking model. I almost wish they wouldnt do liveries. Just make a blank F1 "Ferrari" "McLaren" etc and let the aftermarket community take care of the different decals. Kind of whats happening with the AMG. It's the Presentation car and already there's like 20 different liveries available for that car from the cottage industry. I think this will help keet the cost of the base kit down. Sure after the kit and then decals the cost is up where it would be for a straight up manufactured kit with decals, but at least everyone wont be building the exact same car. Get my kit from the manufacturer then I can pick what livery I want, we all win cause we get to see 20 liveries instead of 20 cars the same by different builders.

The issue with that is, unlike GT3 customer racing there's only 1 Ferrari F1 team with two cars, both of which are represented by the effectively the same livery. Much like Fujimi's recent McLaren-Hondas where the only livery decals were for all the evil tobacco & alcohol companies we had to save the children from... I'd also expect this to effectively be a curbside as the recent trend in "super secret" F1 engines has made a full detail kit out of the realm of reality the last several kits from both manufacturers starting back with the Red Bull Renault.

You're right. I dont really follow F1 anymore, and yes, one team, not need for aftermarket decals unless they're just fill ins for missing decals or for another version for later in the season. I saw a video for the kit, and its got no engine. I've not built an F1 kit in a long time, and this wont be a kit for me. But I do like that we're seeing more race car kits. Variety is good.
