HDDan Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 One of the guys from work just gave me his old junkyard. I'm like a kid in a candy shop
Ridge Rider Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 Nice score, I love inventorying junkyards and thinking of the possibilities.
HDDan Posted February 3, 2018 Author Posted February 3, 2018 I'm thinking restoration of the white 72 vett. Custom on the truck and maybe a post apocalyptic with the other stuff
PARTSMARTY Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 I love this stuff-i have a massive junkyard-i recently retired so i have to get the new model room going.
disabled modeler Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 Nice...junkyards are always nice to have...so many possibilities from them.
Mike999 Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 Great haul! I keep an eye out for boxes full of stuff like that at the local flea markets. Tip for organizing all those wheels and hubcaps: I used to keep them in a parts organizer, one of those things with the little plastic drawers. But I got tired of searching thru the drawers to find 4 matching hubcaps. (I usually only found 3, anyway.) Hobby Lobby and Michael's sell packs of plastic Ziploc bags in different sizes. The smallest bags are perfect for 4 or even 8 wheels/hubcaps. If I know what kit they came from, I often stick an adhesive label on the bag and note that. Of course, I still end up with a bigger Ziploc bag full of "Random Wheels & Hubcaps..."
Tom Geiger Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 Great score! That's why it pays to let everyone in your life know about your hobby! Some will look at you strange, but every so often you score! I like going to the MidAtlantic NNL because they have a lot of vendors who are just hobbyists reducing their collections. Those are the guys who bring out stuff you haven't seen in a long time, and interesting lots. A few years ago I bought two huge clear plastic bags chock full of loose parts. No trees or bodies.. nothing large. Just tons of small things like tires, wheels, engine parts, steering wheels and a lot of things I couldn't even identify. These bags were stuffed full like pillows and I believe I got both for $10. It took me months to sort through it all. I also have the box of random wheels and hubcaps. It comes in handy if I'm building a beater and only need a hubcap or two. Also, when guys post on the boards that they have 3 caps and need the 4th, I sort through hoping to get lucky for them. Have fun
Dodge Driver Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 The Chevy truck is a nice score in and of itself. Wonder if it's this one?
Renegade Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 Great score. Looks like you got some nice stuff in there.
Johnt671 Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 When I move to where I am now I found a junkyard box in the attic. I did a build thread on it and made a story up to go with it. I had just finished what I think of as my best ever build, and found the junk yard build a great stress reducer and a lot of fun.

Back in my house in New Jersey, I was insulating my attic and found small Johan parts in the old insulation. That sure slowed me down, looking for parts!
webestang Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 Great gift of parts. Parts boxes are fun to look through.

That's the one I have. He gave me all the instructions for all of his old builds. Probably 20 booklets
HDDan Posted February 4, 2018 Author Posted February 4, 2018 Check out the real patina on the truck. That's years of sitting in a garage.

You can always look to see if you can find one of the snap kits they had the short fleetside beds. Me...I need to find someone with a old 60s/70s junkyard...I have many I need to find stuff for.
Ron Hamilton Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 I use my junkyard constantly to individualize my builds. It is very valuable. Mine is kept in several see through plastic tubs, categorized as to what part it is.

I love that truck. I had a chance to buy one when they were new, but for me it was too impractical. When that series of truck first came out, the only way they were available was as a long bed. I did my first bed shortening on the 1988 kit, using the dimensions from the brochure to get it right. It came out great, and I still have it in my collection. I may refresh it with some new wheels to take it out of the '80's. I have every version of that truck kit and promo in. my collection, as I sold them new.
