This is a truck shown with a load of newsprint at the Iroquois Falls mill about 100 miles from here. I read Pierce on the grille. Did Pierce Arrow make trucks?

yes - something over on Hank's forum  - http://hankstruckforum.com/htforum/index.php?topic=37072.0

I was thinking possibly connected to Pierce who makes fire apparatus today - but they are not connected - different Pierce

Yes no connection between Pierce Arrow and Pierce Manufacturing. Pierce has been around since 1913, but they didn't start using the Pierce name until 1960.

I was going to ask if there was any chance it says Peerless, but I see there is an arrow on the grill, so I think probably safe that it is Pierce Arrow.

Here is a Pierce Arrow truck from a 1922 movie at IMCDb. It looks very similar to the photo in the first post.

Those are some mighty "low-profile" tires on the back.

And now the young'uns think they're cool with large diameter wheels and rubber band tires.;)

See my avatar to the left?  That is a 1928 Pierce Arrow 7 ton dump.  The real one is in New Jersey.  I modeled it when it was still at a truck museum in Connecticut.  Here is the model in front of a photo of the real truck at the museum.  The truck in the photo above is probably a much earlier version around 1918 or so but they carried many of the same features forward.  The plate on the side of the hood says Pierce Arrow.
