Orange. Almost all of his cars were orange. Old photos (even modern digital pics) can be off quite a few shades from what the car actually was.

Google search California Flash and click on images and you will see dozens of different shades for the same car!

Go with a reddish orange and you should be fine.

Ive seen the restored car a few years ago and even in my own pics it looks red. But thought it was more of an orange.

Ive got hundreds of pics and in every one the car looks red. except the 73 Duster it most definitely looks orange

I did a spray out with a couple rattle cans today and none looked right.( far to red )  I'll keep looking for a better color match via rattle can

I saw somewhere...could have been on the Spotlight Hobbies board...someone said it was painted Ford Poppy Red wich also goes by the name Calypso Coral and Competition Orange and it's a color that looks red in some lights and orange in others.

Your question got me interested in trying to find a definitive answer. Was not able to, but for what it's worth, orange and white are the colors featured across the top of ButchLeal.com:

Also, this pic is interesting, as it shows the body orange more red than the orange on the engine:

It is a restored car, though, not original pics.

That might have been my post on Spotlight.  65 Ford Poppy Red is the color Dave Metzner and I came up with while doing the research for the Moebius California Flash.  I just don't recall where we found the information.
