I just found out and missed the going out of business sale.  They carried a lot of RC stuff but also slot cars and trains and a great selection of model kits (at retail prices).  I will miss the paints selection.  Another local hobby shop closed a year ago - sad to see them keep disappearing because they will never be back.  I'm not a big fan of mail order (due to shipping costs) and I only buy older kits on Ebay and the selection at the local Craft stores is pretty spotty.  Sadly the closest Hobby Lobby is not very close.

Seems like mail order is the wave of the future. Just got a couple of kits from Amazon and will place an order with Auto World. I miss the hobby stores and could spend hours in there. Nothing like picking up a kit to see it up close and taking it with you instead of having to wait on the postman. Unfortunately some people would look in the hobby shop then order on line because it was cheaper. Just did my first online order. If it wasn't for HL it may have been sooner. Have two HL within reasonable distance and check them regularly but HL doesn't stock everything I want.

Interesting. The Laurel, Rockville and Bel Air stores are still open. Seemed like Fairfax was a pretty decent store with quite a few customers - I haven't been there in a long time.

The Laurel store has some stock from Piper Hobby, mostly military stuff.

Hobby shops all across the land are dropping like flies.:(.Three of them shut their doors for good in my area,in the last 4 years or so.
