STYRENE-SURFER Posted April 5, 2018 Posted April 5, 2018 There was an old thread that I can no longer find that mentions making them from an easier to bend type of plastic. It was something that was available on Ebay. Anyone remember this and can jog my memory? Thanx.

STYRENE-SURFER Posted April 5, 2018 Author Posted April 5, 2018 Nope, none of those are what Im looking for, but thanx. The thread Im talking about described a certain type of PLASTIC (not styrene) that was easily bent into whatever shape you wanted. It was not tube but rod shaped and was sold on eBay.
64SS350 Posted April 5, 2018 Posted April 5, 2018 The guy I listed has both rod and tubing. Actually other shapes if I remember correctly.

I do see that now, I really have got to work on my eBay searching skills. It does LOOK like the same stuff, just wish I could find that old thread to be sure. I should have bookmarked it, anyone else remember this thread from about a year ago?
64SS350 Posted April 5, 2018 Posted April 5, 2018 Well after reading it, I bought some myself. And no, I haven't had a chance to try it yet. Too many things to build!!!
Belugawrx Posted April 5, 2018 Posted April 5, 2018 There was a thread about styrene rod with a soft metal core...Plastruct 1/16" dia. https://plastruct.com/product-category/tubing-fittings/

I need to make the same type of headers. What did you use to heat them up? That is actually an interesting story.. I'm not using heat, I am using a different type of styrene rod than just typical evergreen. I get this stuff off eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/STYRENE-ROUND-ROD-120-PIECE-ASSORTMENT-LOT-6-SIZES-PIPE/122094423448?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D37570%26meid%3D2be1c9a6a5a74c38acfdf6022ada2dc9%26pid%3D100011%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D2%26sd%3D111889933610 I stumbled on this on accident, it bends and holds its shape without heat.. The only downfall is, it doesn't glue well with normal styrene glue (I only use CA on it), and sometimes the pieces are not uniform in diameter from end to end. I have purchased this 120 piece assortment, and recently purchased just 120 pieces of the .080 in a custom auction from him. The diameter thing is a bit of a bummer, but once you are aware of it, you can pick and choose pieces so its not much of an issue. I am a really big fan of this stuff, I have never had much luck using heat. Unquote Russ Edited April 6, 2018 by russosborne
afx Posted April 6, 2018 Posted April 6, 2018 I use standard solid styrene rod to make mine. Bend it with my fingers or round nose pliers then set the shape by quickly heating the rod over a candle. Takes a little practice and you will screw up form time-to-time. Use the same technique to make roll cages.
STYRENE-SURFER Posted April 6, 2018 Author Posted April 6, 2018 Karl, you were correct about the eBay seller thanx. Russ, that was exactly the thread I was looking for. J.C. great work manipulating that styrene.
