El Roberto Posted April 28, 2018 Posted April 28, 2018 I just bought a Revell 1/24 scale GMC 4/4 pickup with the big tires. Wow, it's really big in comparison with 1/25 scale cars. Are 1/24 that much bigger than 1/25, or is this a fluke?
Fat Brian Posted April 28, 2018 Posted April 28, 2018 It's a decent difference, compare the Monogram 70 GTX/Roadrunner to the AMT 68/69 GTX/Roadrunners or the Monogram 32 Ford to the Revell 32 Fords.
Snake45 Posted April 28, 2018 Posted April 28, 2018 The difference is 4%. But some 1/24 cars seem to be on the large size, and some 1/25 cars seem to be on the small size, which makes the difference even worse. For example, compare the Monogram '70 Boss 429 Mustang to the AMT/ex-MPC '69 Mustang. It's hard to put them on the same shelf.
BubbaBrown Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 I have two shelves with a total of 39 cars all done and parked next to each other that are supposed to be 1/25 scale. I don't know what they measure out to but the term 1/25 is used Very liberally . I probably have about a dozen 1/24 kits I mostly bought for parts and they are bigger but not by much .
El Roberto Posted April 29, 2018 Author Posted April 29, 2018 This GMC kit is a LOT bigger. You could almost put a 1/25 32 ford in the bed.
gtx6970 Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 I guess Im sort of a scale snob. I cant or ' will not buy or build a 1.24th scale kit. No matter the subject. The difference may be minor , but sitting side by side the difference is VERY apparent

The local model club is having a Mad Max type contest, so that's what I'm building the pick up for. Edited May 1, 2018 by El Roberto added punctuation
Spruslayer Posted May 1, 2018 Posted May 1, 2018 This is from a new guy perspective but when i "discovered modeling" again, i did not give scale a second thought as i am into figures and sci-fi. That however dident last long as i began to notice things to be out of scale Now that I've branched into vehicles i notice details that are out of scale and wonder why was this not fixed befor producing the retail kit.
Jantrix Posted May 1, 2018 Posted May 1, 2018 I really kind of enjoy the Monogram 1/24 kits. They tend so be simpler, low parts count. Usually very inexpensive and I don't feel bad cutting them up. Sometimes the scale difference can be a good thing. 1/25 V10 in a 1/24 car. Looks perfect. Fit like a glove.
