am73grand Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 Really nice work so far. Your bodywork skills are amazing. Looking forward to more!
disabled modeler Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 Im loving this bird build....Hopefully Ill be able to find a 75 to make my old car from someday.
dragmodels44 Posted June 8, 2018 Author Posted June 8, 2018 (edited) Hey thanks, it was a challenge and I wanted to see how it would look, and so far I’m happy enough with it to continue. Hopefully I’ll have paint on it tonight. Someday maybe I’ll find a ‘74 and have both body styles. More to come... Edited June 8, 2018 by dragmodels44
dragmodels44 Posted June 8, 2018 Author Posted June 8, 2018 (edited) Well... here’s the 3 colors I was bouncing around, then I found an article about the colors and came up with this ( see the pics ). My body shop is going to cross reference those paint codes to the brand they use, and I’ll go with the actual correct color used. Although, I would have leaned toward the pure gold colored spoon but photos are hard to tell sometimes as lighting changes everything. It’s amazing as the spoons look different in the pic than they do as I look at them! Edited June 8, 2018 by dragmodels44
bisc63 Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 The Inca gold looks particularly nice to me in your picture. Cool project!
dragmodels44 Posted June 9, 2018 Author Posted June 9, 2018 Well, its painted and cleared. I decided to go with Tamiya pure gold, probably more due to impatience, but I think it looks close enough. Here’s some pics right after paint and clear. Thanks for looking.
dragmodels44 Posted June 10, 2018 Author Posted June 10, 2018 Here’s an update on the paint. I wasn’t happy with the gloss, so I scuffed it and re-cleared it, then polished it out. Definitely looks better.
Slotto Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 Looking good! I like the stance on the previous page
dragmodels44 Posted June 17, 2018 Author Posted June 17, 2018 I republished the body so I’ve got it about as glossy as I can get it. I bare metal foiled it, I had to wing it for the window moldings as there was nothing left after all the sanding. All the painting is pretty much done. I found two sets of Rally II wheels and I’m glad I got them both as the chrome set is a little too big for the tires. The resin set fits better so I’m going with those. I went with dark tan for the interior. The colors look like a pretty good match.
Jonathan Posted June 17, 2018 Posted June 17, 2018 It really looks great. I wouldn't think Rockford's 'bird would be too glossy.
dragmodels44 Posted June 24, 2018 Author Posted June 24, 2018 ALMOST FINISHED! Just wanted to add an update to the Rockford files firebird, I had to mock up the wheels/tires for now as I cant find wheel backs yet. Otherwise it’s pretty much done. I did it as a curbside but it looks decent. It’s one I’ve wanted to add for a long time. The correct license plate made it! Hope you like it. Thanks for looking.
John Goschke Posted June 25, 2018 Posted June 25, 2018 Great project! I think Mr. Garner would approve.
Daddyfink Posted June 25, 2018 Posted June 25, 2018 Is it weird that I hear the shows theme music when I look at this build? This is a very cool build!
dragmodels44 Posted June 25, 2018 Author Posted June 25, 2018 “ At the tone leave a message “ Thanks!
dragmodels44 Posted June 25, 2018 Author Posted June 25, 2018 Well, I just fixed a screw up that I cant believe I missed. I inadvertently painted the taillight covers silver, instead of body color. So I had to carefully repaint it while it was on the body. Unbelievable!
christian-w Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 This Firebird came out pretty! Love the simple body with out any garnish. Plain and smooth. The color looks fantastic. Like it all over.
dragmodels44 Posted June 26, 2018 Author Posted June 26, 2018 Thanks, I’m holding off mounting the wheels/tires until I can find a better set of whitewalls
webestang Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 You are my hero!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Looks fantastic!!!!!!!!! LOVE that show and the car!
