JPolli Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 Is it possible to shoot Tamiya TS 13 clear over a finish that has been applied with any of the Tamiya X Acrylic Paints?
High octane Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 I would think so, however I'm not sure and I would ask the owner of the hobby shop that question.
935k3 Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 It will dissolve the acrylic and make it run. I have used the semi-gloss TS79 but only very light coats with an airbrush. You need wet coats to get a good gloss. I do not use acrylics for bodies especially cars that need allot decals applied, they just are not as sturdy as lacquers and enamels.
niteowl7710 Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 If you want to gloss coat Tamiya Acrylic Bottle Paint, then get the Tamiya Acrylic Bottle Gloss Clear X-22.
JPolli Posted June 10, 2018 Author Posted June 10, 2018 I assumed the Tamiya TS 13 Clear would dissolve the Tamiya X acrylics and make them run. However, I just heard of an individual accidentally shooting Testors Wet Look Clear over a Tamiya X Acrylic Finish WITHOUT horrendous results. Made me wonder if the Tamiya TS 13 Clear would be OK???
mikemodeler Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 Get a spare/scrap body and try. I have yet to spray a body with acrylic paint so can't say for sure.
ZTony8 Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 I suspect that the old formula TS-13 would cause grief. The new formula might not. I'm told that it doesn't affect the lacquers like the old formula did.

Personally Testors Wet Look clear seems like it's not nearly as hot as TS-13. That doesn't surprise me either.
