oldcarfan Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 When I am building on a regular basis, I tend to build one type of vehicle for a while. I built Nascar models for a while, then pickup trucks exclusively for a few months. Currently I am obsessed with Porsche. I have several 911s from Monogram, Tamiya, and Revell in various stages of completion. I recently got a couple more 924s, a 944 and Saturday I got a 928. Is this normal?
Dave Ambrose Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 It's probably totally normal. People have different styles. I've been building more hot rods lately, but I tend to jump around between subjects; cars, sci-fi, submarines, and even the occasional airplane.
Snake45 Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 Yeah. I'm currently working on several '65-'67 and '68-'73 Covettes...and I've just finished a couple of each, too. And now I seem to be on a GTO kick, just finished a '72 and am working on a '65....
ewetwo Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 I jumped from a 70 Thunderbird to a Jaguar to a 49 ford to a 61 Impala to a 58 corvette. So yes. It helps keep your interest going. I think. :-)
OldTrucker Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 (edited) Once in a great while if i get several kits going at the same time. Otherwise I like to mix it up. Just finished the old woody and now working on this horrible 72 GTO! Edited June 28, 2018 by OldTrucker
High octane Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 I'm not now, however not too long ago I was heavy into building gasser models and also other drag racing subjects from the 60's.
cobraman Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 For me it must be Cobra’s . But I can quit anytime I want ! ?
TarheelRick Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 I find it helps me to get out of a slump if I build a short-track racer. I have several builds in progress, but went into a slump; so I dug out a "model show zip-lock bag" kit and began building it into a dirt track racer. I am now almost to the point of paint and will hopefully get back to the other builds once this one is finished.
afx Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 Fixated? No I like to build all different kind'a of Cobras.

Jantrix Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 Definitely not. I think anyone who's familiar with my work knows they are as varied as can be. I will revisit a particular genre, but not anytime soon.
ChrisBcritter Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 (edited) Five '61-'65 Continentals, five '60-'64 Falcons, three '61-'64 Comets, two '65 Oldsmobiles and a partridge in a pear tree... Edited June 28, 2018 by ChrisBcritter
espo Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 Usually I build a model they way I would want it if I owned a real one. Most often a day two style lightly modified drive train and wheels and tires. Presently working on an old AMT '69 Corvair with a rear mounted Corvette engine and transaxle setup.
Badluck 13 Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 Me? maybe a bit a hoarder / obsessive but I have 11 '60 Ford Starliner's I been working off n on with,also have many promos of the 4dr ht,wagon,vert and one 4dr sedan,I love the '60 "A" body Ford no matter what series,sedan,wagon etc. and I even have a few more ideas for a few more.....sick I tell ya...sick
Lovefordgalaxie Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 I build all kinds of cars, as long as they are made by Ford and have a V8. Used to build GM cars too, but starting in 2016, I decided to only build a kit if it's a V8 Ford.
Tom Geiger Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 It happens. I got going on rebuilding an old Monogram Model A junker. So I got out more Model As from that series and the next thing I know I have three chassis completed on my work bench.
gtx6970 Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 For me, first and foremost. I am a Mopar guy. so they rule my display cabinet, followed extremely close by vintage drag cars. Even better if its a vintage Mopar drag car Occasionally I build outside those 2 genres, but to be honest its not much Although I haven't touched a model in probably 6 months and odds are it'll be another 6 before I can think about it.
mikemodeler Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 My display case is chock full of C2 Corvettes and Camaros from 67-2016. Add in a few hot rods and Chevy SUVs too. The model workbench has 5 GM pickups, 3 Camaros and a couple of Jeeps. Got to get a few more WIPs done before considering any of the big rigs in the stash.

BUT, I only have a '63 Fairlane in the stash (thunderbolt), and I'm looking for a Moebius Comet that is not priced like gold. I have all years of the Ford Galaxie between 1959 and 1966 tough. Have a '67, but it's a mint, annual kit that I'm not willing to build just yet. The '67 is a year I would buy several if eventually, by some sort of miracle, got reissued. Have a '70 also unbuilt. The '66 is my favorite tough.
oldcarfan Posted June 30, 2018 Author Posted June 30, 2018 Just now, Lovefordgalaxie said: I would love to build them. For what it's worth AMT did a nice 1965 Fairlane as a promo and they show up fairly cheaply on eBay. I would imagone the chassis from the Revell Thunderbolt would probably fit under it if you want detail!
StevenGuthmiller Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 Yeah, you could say that I fixate on one type of car. That "type of car" is any full sized American automobile between the years of 1955-1970. And of course they are built almost exclusively factory stock with a few mild variations. Now whether or not that is a Mopar, GM or Ford product is of little importance. As a matter of fact, I like to mix it up a bit, but I do occasionally fixate on a particular type of car. A while back, I really started getting into big mid 60s Pontiacs. Lately, it's been early 60s Mopars. Who knows what will grab me next, but you would be safe in guessing that it will be a large American car! Steve
