Best match up now is Testors lacquer.Lots of good colors. Wild altereds. Saw some old ad's for Revell kit's like Ed Roth Bantam Bomber and Studebaker Miss Deal. Those were the kits to get in that era. AMT comes close to that with Jawbreaker.You have to build it right to get that 'thrown together' look. Because that's the way those cars were.They were built to do just one thing.So they were not real stylish. Box art AMT MPC. That's a tough go for them. I myself have come around to checking for any box art or real race cars or custom cars on the net. regular guy Posted July 4, 2018 Author Share Posted July 4, 2018 AMT Engine selection. The most interesting engines they have are the early Hemi and Ford 427 'Cammer'. They need to wangle some Cadillac or Oldsmobile engines. Can't put a Cammer in a period correct 50's early 60's build. bobthehobbyguy Posted July 4, 2018 Share Posted July 4, 2018 The Revell ad is incorrect in its usage of scratchbuilt. Scratchbuilding is making parts from raw materials. The part packs allowed you to create your own kit. The AMT engine parts packs had a Chrysler Hemi, Corvair, 283 chevy, Pontaic 421, and Allison. There never was a 427 Cammer in the AMT parts packs. Don't seem to be any Tubular Roadster Chassis's around. Can make them out of chrome sprues and touch up with Model Master chrome paint. Really looking for the Competition Frame from the Revell parts pack. It's so simple I can just build it out of some kind of tubing. It's a 'flat' frame.No kick up in the rear. Here are the two Revell "roadster" frames. One represents rectangular or channel side members, one round. Both have kickups in the rear. There is also a bigger-car chassis based on the C1 Corvette. The rest of the frames in the old Revell parts-pack lineup are for rail dragsters. AMT (NOT REVELL) shows a "competition frame" in the illustration below, but it is a part from the old double-dragster kit. Today somebody would say 'Don't do that to a classic T Bird' . In the 60's they were just used cars. They look pretty strange sitting up high but that would be period correct! I'm 99% sure it was reissued by RC2 under the Johnny Lightning series, but maybe Round2 is backdating and/or repairing something regarding the mold. If AMT is using the 'Ebay rule' to see what demand is.It may be awhile.I think there are tons of them for sale. A brand new reissue might be a different story though. Hollywood hills would be not so flat and some taller buildings in the background. Looks like around her Frankie and Annette beach movie era. Think there is more info on the car over on Kustomorama. One of the big customizers did the work on the car. Very smart buy.Not the usual just buy a luxury car move. She may have raised in LA area.A local product. A local we say. regular guy Posted July 6, 2018 Author Share Posted July 6, 2018 Back to the frames. Took a look at frame from Lindberg Bucket T Pickup kit. It's a racing frame.It's flat.Rearend mounts solid ON TOP of frame.That's dragster. It has 'settings' on frame so you can build it with and without snout mounted blower. Also blower points towards early dragster. It was a big adventure putting a blower on in those days.Late 50's. Like Garlits with the first couple of his cars.
