pack rat Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 No, they're not the same kit. The top pic is the original AMT annual that has never been re-issued. The bottom pic is a re-issue of the MPC annual. It's been released in several different AMT/MPC boxes over the years. Without getting into too much detail, it's not the best replica of a '69 Mustang, and generally considered to be undersized. Given a choice, the AMT is the kit you want. Here's the original MPC box.
vamach1 Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 You can see how much smaller the MPC is in this side by side.
mrmike Posted July 29, 2018 Posted July 29, 2018 You learn something new everyday! I never knew that AMT had a '69 Mustang kit aside from the MPC '69 Mustang which I knew was a little smaller than 1/25 scale. After reading this thread, I looked this up in Tim Boyd's new book, "Collecting Muscle Car Model Kits". It makes me wonder what became of the AMT '69 Mustang tooling? Was it lost, damaged, or modified beyond repair?
Snake45 Posted July 29, 2018 Posted July 29, 2018 Probably was updated to the '70, and then it might have become a funny car.
