Johnt671 Posted August 15, 2018 Posted August 15, 2018 (edited) I started this one It will be a slight custom with a lot of go power, The exterior will feature some custom touches, but be mostly stock and the interior will have some nicer than stock seats. The go will come from a Revell parts pack 427 with either one or two 4 barrel carbs and headers. There are some nice extra parts in this kit so other than the 427 I think everything else will be out of the box. I think these Hollys are too big to use two of them so I may go with one. What to you think? I think these distributers are the best I've seen. They come with the plug boots one. Great for me because I can't cut the boots even on the do it yourself ones. I adjusted the stance so the rear end is a bit higher than the front. Edited September 14, 2018 by Johnt671
espo Posted August 16, 2018 Posted August 16, 2018 Interesting project. I see what you mean about the Carburetors being out of scale. Maybe you could use Carbs from another kit. You mentioned altering the ride height or stance by raising the rear. You may want to consider lowering the front to get the stance the way you want. This kit like most has a rather high ride height anyway, and raising the rear suspension only would make that worse. I have not seen those Distributers before and I would like to get some, I'll checkout their web site.
Johnt671 Posted August 16, 2018 Author Posted August 16, 2018 (edited) Espo, The carbs in the pictures are resin aftermarket pieces. The carbs on the motor kit are small. I'm still not sure what I will do. I could go with the 1 carb set up with a removable air filter so I can show the carb details, or the 2 carbs that came with the kit along with the ram air air filter. Either way would look good, I think. I raised the back up a little because I've never had much luck lowering the front on a steerable front and still have the wheels steer, but thanks for the suggestion. Yes the distributers are sweet. As soon as I saw them I ordered all of the yellow and blue wires he had in stock. Edited August 16, 2018 by Johnt671

You posted pics with one and two of the over-sized carbs; if you're looking for input, maybe two pics showing one kit carb , the two kit carbs might help. Funny, you're doing a '57 and a friend of mine in Chicago owned a 1:1 '56 Crown Vic (according to the VIN, it was the last production Vic). He ended up putting a "cammer" in it and the car was absolutely awesome!
Sledsel Posted August 17, 2018 Posted August 17, 2018 I Love this kit and have quite a few of them. This is looking good. I would also lower the front. If I am not mistaken, you just flip the spindles over to lower the front. To me, that Revell parts pack engine always looked a bit under-scale. Unlike the Revell kit, the body on this is pretty darn good. For a bit more accuracy, you could sand the front of the rear quarter to taper it down as shown in the pic.

Plus some carb pictures. I'm going with the parts pack carbs because they look ok once I glued them together, and they'll be under an air filter and woun't show much. l
Geno Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 That's gonna be sweet John. I love '57 Fords of any flavor. To me they are way cooler and better looking than a '57 Chevy.
Johnt671 Posted August 28, 2018 Author Posted August 28, 2018 Thanks Geno. here's a little bit of progress. I like doing the plus wires but using a pin vise to drill the holes is tedious. I need a faster pin vise. Also working on the interior.
Johnt671 Posted August 31, 2018 Author Posted August 31, 2018 Thanks bisc63. I got a little more done.
Rider Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 This is shaping up nicely, the interior colour is fantastic.

For a pin vise if you don't have the twist drill style you may like that. They are pretty quick.

The seat color is Testors Bright Blue. The dash and door panels will be left glossy, and the seat were cleared with flat. A little more done, the motor is finished. Ron Hamilton Posted September 7, 2018 Posted September 7, 2018 Nice concept so far. I have yet to build a stock AMT or Revell 57 Ford.
Rider Posted September 7, 2018 Posted September 7, 2018 (edited) With the door and hood matching colours and being different from the body the first thing I thought of was the toy from the '70's Smash Up Derby. The build is looking good, dig the engine detail. Edited September 7, 2018 by Rider
Johnt671 Posted September 14, 2018 Author Posted September 14, 2018 Slow going on this one. I started to foil the door, but I messed up and the foil really stuck to the gold trim and my knife nicked the paint . I found some dust specks on the body, sanded them out and sprayed the the body. So then the body was darker then the doors so I had to respray them. The interior is pretty much done, but I still have to touch up the inner door panels. Here is where I am now.
Johnt671 Posted September 16, 2018 Author Posted September 16, 2018 This one will be delayed for a bit. I need to order some fresh BMF. I tried to do the foiling again but I had problems with the foil. If my hands were steadier I'd try my Molotows pen on it.
Rider Posted September 17, 2018 Posted September 17, 2018 This is looking fantastic. John, if your hands are good enough to cut the BMF they are good enough the cut masking tape. Why not mask off the trim clear the edges then use your pen to do the chrome. That's how I have done it and it works great.

It really isn't much different other then having to make sure your edges are cleared to seal them from any bleeding or blow through. Of course the added time for the painting. Looking forward to seeing the results.
Johnt671 Posted April 5, 2020 Author Posted April 5, 2020 I gave up on this one until now. I got some new BMF and so far the doors worked out OK.
bisc63 Posted April 6, 2020 Posted April 6, 2020 Glad to see you back on this! This is one of the most attractive 50s bodies from any of the big three.
Johnt671 Posted April 10, 2020 Author Posted April 10, 2020 (edited) It's time for a brake fluid soak for the third time for this one. I started another build while it's soaking I give up on the BMF on it and I'm going to strip the chrome off the body. I tried a chrome marker and messed that up too. Edited April 10, 2020 by Johnt671
