GLMFAA1 Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 What and who made these moon caps with the single wing? Was there ever a set in a 1/24(25) model kit? greg
thatz4u Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 1/25th kit, I think it was the 50 F-1 Ford pickup
Bucky Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 It looks similar to the Hollywood Flipper shown on the following link: https://hubcapmike.com/vintage-hubcaps/
gman Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 There were some similar looking hubcaps on the 37 Cadillac V16, which may have inspired the aftermarket single bar Hollywood flipper hubcaps that were popular back in the day. As mentioned, the custom release of Monogram's 50 Ford is one place to find them that shouldn't be too hard to track down.
stavanzer Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 There is a set in some versions of the AMT 40 Ford Sedan delivery.
Richard Bartrop Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 Revell's '48 Ford Custom Coupe also sports a set. I think RMMC also carries them. They were based on the hubcaps that first appeared on Cadillacs in 1933, and you can get those in model form as well.

W Humble Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 There was a very common version that was simply the wheel cover without the lateral bar, and we called them "Hollywood Moons", to differentiate between them and the real competition Moon spun discs. My first car (1961) , a previously modified '55 Chevy DelRay 2-dr sedan (power-pak 265, three speed on floor with "vette shifter and plate, 4:11 gears, had 'em! It also had red rims, wide w/w's and was lowered two inches all around; this was going rapidly out of fashion, so I canned the wheel covers, painted the rims black, and put on the more trendy 'baby moons', as well as taking the two-inch lowering blocks out to give it more of a a 'dago' (Sic) and keep the body from slamming down so hard on the bump stop when I was racing! The old 265 was a good runner because the stick-shifted cars came standard with a solid-lifter cam and forged crank; mine got a 3/4 grind cam and a few other tweaks, with the old Carter 4GC four-barrel. Anyhow, I have no idea what became of the moons; nobody wanted them.
gman Posted August 25, 2018 Posted August 25, 2018 OP, if you want a set from the Monogram Ford, send me a message with name/mailing details.
GLMFAA1 Posted October 5, 2018 Author Posted October 5, 2018 First off: Thanks to Greg Peters for the hubcaps, Now for the side story, The owner of the real truck lost one of his hubcaps and when he got it back it had been run over and destroyed. My brother told him about 'hubcap mike' and he got a replacement for his truck. Thanks to all the great contributors on this site greg
