pharr7226 Posted September 18, 2018 Posted September 18, 2018 I'm interested in building a diorama. But I have no idea about how to keep dust off of it. I'm curious about what you guys do to prevent dust accumulation in your dioramas.
Anglia105E Posted September 18, 2018 Posted September 18, 2018 Hello Rick..... I use a one inch household paintbrush to ' sweep ' the roadways / streets of any dust that has accumulated, and a cosmetic blusher brush to clean dust off scale model cars. A compressed air duster is a bit too drastic and would cause bits of the buildings to fly off! David
misterNNL Posted September 18, 2018 Posted September 18, 2018 I have some large dios that are too large to fit into any of my five display cases. I have them on top of the cases covered with pieces of bed sheets to keep as much dust as possible from accumulating. I also use a very soft bristle brush for dusting them off before displaying them in public.
Eshaver Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 All of the dioramas i have done for myself are stored in boxes between shows . I build mine so as to allow the base separate away from the building . This latest diorama , The Crossroads Coffee house is really going to need a separate storage room
DPNM Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 As an alternative, depending on the size of your diorama, you may be able to find an empty aquarium that you can put over it.
NYLIBUD Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 Or you can use computer key board spray duster. That usually works pretty well for me.
Jantrix Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 I'm doing a shadowbox dio. With a plexigrass front cover, there will be no dust issues. Plus, it's wall mountable so shelf space is not an issue. PLUS, it's a finite amount of space so it's doesn't take on a life of it's own and continue to grow like some dio's I have seen over the years.
GlueTube Posted September 28, 2018 Posted September 28, 2018 I build acrylic display cases sized to fit the base. I do have a table saw to cut with, but before that acquisition the lumber yard was paid to cut the sheets for me. Regards Brian Kroon
