Chuck, thank you for all those detail shots! It appears that the overhang is nothing more than a rain gutter. I can use Evergreen stock for that. No matter, as I want to buy one.
Also, it looks killer as a monster truck!

one thing I have noticed, the hood on this Moebius truck appears to fit rather well......

I have this kit and am in the middle of doing it as a US Navy security/utility truck from my childhood.
My Dad was a lifer in the Navy and I saw these trucks at every base we were stationed on during the 60's
They were painted Haze Grey with white bumpers and grill no chrome at all .
Black interior even missing hub caps LOL

Yup I remember those trucks running around Cigli Air Force base in Turkey when I was a kid.  They also had tons of Dodge 4 door pickups.  Every one I've seen in private hands later in life started out as a military vehicle.  I'll bet they were created specifically for a government bid.

I noticed a 65 long bed at the hobby shop today,with some 8 lug rims and tires from Scenes unlimited I could have a F250.

Possibly Rust, but that does not look like an area where rust is common. I'm betting it is an "Operator Error".
