martinfan5 Posted October 30, 2018 Posted October 30, 2018 (edited) From Ace Decals, is Joey's 2017/2018 Shell/Pennzoil decals, just released about a week ago , I am still not 100% what yellow I am going to use, but I am leaning towards Pennzoil Yellow as I think that is what the teams is using, I did reach out to Penske racing to verify but they never responded back. So what I have done so fa?r, let's take a look , all chassis bits have already been paint with Chassis Grey from Promax SEM paint. Some of the missing roll bars, the upside down V are ones that are missing that I added I added the second vertical bar to the halo bar The Ford FR9, painted using a few different Metalizer paints and Primer black from Mr Color, and I added the plug wires. The Ford decals on the valve covers are from Powerslide decals The seat, the leg braces have been added, and then the entire seat was painted once again using Mr Surfacer Black, and the the exterior was painted in graphite type of color. And the chassis, the molded in fuel was removed and I a new set made of round stock was added and move to a more accurate spot that Penske Racing runs them at( I believe) Edited October 30, 2018 by martinfan5

martinfan5 Posted October 31, 2018 Author Posted October 31, 2018 (edited) Let's see what else I have done , The tires and wheels, the tires, using decals from Powerslide Decals, decals on the bare tires followed by a couple coats of Tamiya flat clear, they are a bit too shiny , even did a coat of dullcoat from Testors, might have to just go back to only using Dullcoat. Here is how I lower the rear suspension, first, while not the actual part that lowers it, the shocks , here you can see that I cut the shock shaft free, and then hollowed out the cylinder, I also shortened the shaft just a bit And now the shocks are ready for the new ride height( its adjustable right now) And the springs, I just cut a little off the top, and that lowers the rear end, I always need to add in shim or too. iBorg Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 What kit did this start out as? It looks like a killer build.
PettyKW43 Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 Following this , haven’t done a current ( was going to say Winston) Cup car ! Great looking build!

CRANMAN1 Posted November 1, 2018 Posted November 1, 2018 Nice been waiting for those decals to come out. I think for color you could use any bright yellow. Im gonna use Tamiya yellow on mine.
martinfan5 Posted November 4, 2018 Author Posted November 4, 2018 (edited) Lets take a look at what I have done so far, the chassis, getting there, on the drivers side, I added the piece of padding that is between the driver and the left side roll cage. Rear axle set up pretty much done at this point, the trailing arms were brush painted with Model Master Metalizer Exhaust, the rear axle was painted Mr Surfacer Black, the wheel backs Metalizer Brunt Metal.[/url] Now this is how I lower the front the suspension, and this is the hardest part about lowering it , first, I start with the wheel backs, I cut out a notch the width of the spindle. And then I glue the wheel back directly to the spindle, but I move them up on the spindle a bit, and the result should be something like this, lowered ride height. I was all set to get the body painted tonight, and that is when I found out my compressor is not working, and seeing how I am going to use air brush ready paint, I wont be able to get this painted for bit why I either try and get mine working or get a new one ordered. I have a sad face right now. Edited November 4, 2018 by martinfan5
martinfan5 Posted November 6, 2018 Author Posted November 6, 2018 (edited) And this is about as far as I can go till the new compressor arrives, or I decide to use a spray paint. Edited November 6, 2018 by martinfan5
martinfan5 Posted November 8, 2018 Author Posted November 8, 2018 Jim, I thank ye for the compliment New compressor is in the garage, so the paint got to flowing
christian-w Posted November 9, 2018 Posted November 9, 2018 I like the design of Joey's car! This looks familiar and classic. Looks, like the kit by Revell is a good one. Your details are pretty good so far. I'll keep an eye on this build!
Devilsnake98 Posted November 9, 2018 Posted November 9, 2018 I'm so curious how the large decals (the red portion over the front fenders and on the front bumper) are going to lay down, even with some kind of decal set they look like they're gonna be a bearcat.
martinfan5 Posted November 16, 2018 Author Posted November 16, 2018 Clear coat, its not the best ive done, in fact, its pretty bad, even wetsanding didnt help it much, but thats ok, its a race car And start of the decal process, I really dislike doing large decals over complex curves
Devilsnake98 Posted November 17, 2018 Posted November 17, 2018 It looks like the red sections all matched up ok, how is the fit on those large red decals? Did they need much modification?

The fit was really good, there are the three separate decals that need to all be aligned , the only mods I made was cutting a slit in a few different areas to help them settle down better, decal setting can only do so much.
magicmustang Posted November 19, 2018 Posted November 19, 2018 Looking good. Congrats to Joey on winning the 2018 Championship.

That's good to know, I just picked up this decal sheet and the revell #10 as the donor. I'm gonna try and add the round of 4 playoff colors and markings on mine.
