Let's continue:

Sonoma's rear axle back part was horrible. New one was made of acril bead & styrol.
33_online
I've casted Ford's rear axle, cut off the excess and added semi axles of profiles + steal spike.
34_online
Let's glue it together...
35_online
...add epoxy putty...
36_online
... and get TopKick rear axle.

It slightly longer, then must, but I will cut it after fit brakes and wheels.

The best info I could find said the wheels were 20".

Let's renew this dusty topic.

I understood why I haven't pick up the Truck for a long time. It was time to make fasteners for axles to springs, and this is a tedious job.

39_online

I worked on the front of the frame. It tapers to the bumper

48_online

Cut off the excess plastic, made the front crossbar and added styrene on top

40_online

41_online

42_online

The gearbox of the front axle was not quite correct, if you look at the photo from updates abowe. I cut it up and reversed the parts

44_online

43_online

however the front and rear of the gearbox did not quite match.

45_online

Made a spacer

46_online

I couldn't resist trying it all on

47_online

Now it's ready to attach the wheels and I can make up the cab. But while we're quarantined, I'll get another Pickup.

Hello, Gents!

49_online
Building Silverado, I found rear mirrors, wich I can copy for Iron Hide Topkick. Unfortunatelly they 1/25 (white one). I also have Asto van, which is 1/24, bud they are different (black one).

I also wiĺl copy Astro steering wheel (grey one).
50_online
The question is which steering wheel column to copy for TopKick? Asrto's (grey) or Silverado's (white)?

What do you think?

Thank you, Nicholas! I thought the same way!

Now I have copied the steering wheel, wheel column, side mirrors and passenger handle from Silverado kit

The first casting brings me some air bubbles So I will try again. I copied Silverado's tail lights too, with little change.

That's all for now. Thank you for attention!

Hello, Gents!

I have come to body work start. And here I stumble. I've got drawing, but can't believe it. It seems body hight is about 65 inches. Overall Savanna's height is 82 inches.

Can it be: clearence between body and ground - 17 inches?

57_online

Does anyone have GMC Savanna, TopKick- Pickup/Chevrolet Express, Kodiak-Pickup  near  to measure? I need body bottom edge to ground measure. Having overall height  I can calculate body height and compare it to drawing.

Thank you, Francis!

Hello, colleagues!
It's time to start a cab. As I came to assemble a 1999 Silverado on a nearby topic, and Silverado & TopKick have the same bed, it is better to take measurements from Silverado bed, when it not glued to frame. And before that it's better to make cab.
Armed with PDF-files
72_online
Cab have rounded sides...
57_online
...so I desided to cut them from vent tube
65_online
Printed drawings and glued on
66_online
67_online
Back wall has difficult  shape. It has a step outwards to increase cab space 2,5 inch more. So I divided this element to 3 pieces. The first one, which is reflecting the back contour of a cab I cut from styrene. It was mistake.
69_online
It don't keep flat shape.  Next I tried transparent plastic  from candy box.
68_online
Here is how  looks pattern.
70_online
Cutouts are not ready jet
Sandwiched back wall.

By the way, does anyone have a picture of 2000 TopKick's firewall? The only photo I could find was this
Firewall
...but I'm afraid it's 1990 TopKick.

WOW, that some incredible work Sergey, I love your idea to print the shape, very accurate, clever idea!  What type of plastic are these ventilation tubes made of?  Are you using super glue to join the pieces together?

Posted

Thank you, Francis!

I guess the material is - polyvinyl chloride. Haven't glued them jet. Perhaps I will use super glue - gel or epoxy.

Posted

Try super glue gel 80 to 90% and testors liquid cement, for the rest.  I find this combo really keeps things together.  The bond isn't "brittle" like super glue alone, and you have a little time to move parts around because the liquid cement seems to slow the super glue curing time by several seconds.

"Hi, Gents!" (c)
Have found some time to scratch more plastic.
Here is roof sandwich

73_online
.. and back wall
74_online
75_online
And moving forward I've found difficulties: the roof  bends forward just behind the stamping and because it curves in two planes, I had to make a cutout
76_online
But this solve the probleme partly.
77_online
Roof bending should be smooth and have bigger angle. So I inserted 1mm square rod between layers.
78_online
different view
79_online
Also right  stand was accidently cut in process (marked by arrow) and glued back/ :sorry:
80_online
Final stage so far, but  stands should be bended more.
81_online
I pulled myself together and made a slipway

Great work as always! Incredible skills! Btw, you could not use any parts of the cab from the Silverado you will be needing as a donor for the bed?

Thank you, Anton!

I will use copys of steering column and side mirrirs for sure. Door cards, and dash board, and seats are different from silverado and Astro van.
