I was disappointed with this offering from Maisto.  If you can find the various Revell ones they are far better.  I guess for $10 you cannot expect or much.  It might be interesting to try the Revell interior in it just to see if it fits.  The wheels and tires just seem to fit too far under the fenders.

Looks nice, Ewetwo! I have one of these in a dark red. I've never seen the Revell diecast, but I'm pretty happy with how this one looks on the shelf.

One tip about these diecasts: While you have the body off, hit the back of the headlight "stem" with white paint. Not silver, not aluminum, WHITE. This makes the stem almost disappear and gets rid of much of the "googly-eyed" look of many diecasts.

You can also improve the look of the Ford wheels on this one by hitting the low areas with a Flat Steel color.

Welcome to diecasts!

I agreed Rex. Too narrow and too low. I did look to see if I could at least raise it. It was beyond my ability.

Randy. You are right. Two day build which you need time to time. And the garage scene is from the clear cases you can buy to put your models in. I just taped two together. I bought them at Hobby Lobby but you can buy them most likely any where.

Snake. I tried to pop the headlights out but they were in there pretty solid and I was afraid I’d make it worse. But I will remember to use white as I have used silver. And it had a shiny and dull choice of wheels and I chose the shiny. I like yours in red.

Next in die cast is a 2010 Charger. Then a 1/18 scale American Grafitti 1953 Buick Skylark  Convertible  Die cast. This one is panted red. But I have another that is just in primer and another one that is the 1955 Chrysler 300.

Thanks for the tip on the garage scene.  I built one around 20 years ago and drag it out occasionally.  Hopefully get around to finishing the stocking of it someday.   But here's a photo I had on here a while back.

And as others have said, welcome to diecasts.   I don't have time and drive to dedicate to big plastic builds anymore.   Diecasts are fun.   And I'm collecting a lot of cars that weren't done in diecasts before.

I hope to have a better garage scene someday. Is yours made out of wood? Or foam core? That impala is nice. I have a bunch of smaller die cast packed away. I had them out on display but the plastic kits have pushed them out of the cabinet. And I have my Matchbox cars along with Matchbox city and a matchbox fire station. Almost all of them are in their boxes but the thing is. I wrote on top of the boxes what was in each box so I didn't have to keep pulling the boxes out. I'm told that ruined the boxes. I think it gave them character. :) And a few Corgi's and Dinky's from my childhood. I had a Prameta Buick but my younger brother stole it and traded it for a GI Joe. Here's a photo of one.

Your story sounds like most of ours I think.   We all have a ton of models and little cars and such.

My garage was built on foamcore.  I painted the base with some gray paint, then wiped it all off, which left a pretty good concrete look.   The stains are real - have no idea what they are though.

Walls are built from wood with the idea it is how a guy would build a garage in his back yard.  And it was based on a friend's building pretty much.

It looks really nice Randy. Maybe something ti try in the Spring/Summer. I want to get one of the new tool kits from AMT as soon as they come to my area. Hopefully they will be here at the end of the month.

And Randy. I adhered the scenes or the garage onto foam core. You could adhere them to thin card board and cut them out to hang on your garage walls. It might look really cool. Actually. I could scan them and send them to you.

Did the trunk on your open Snake? Mine is hinged but that baby wouldn't budge and I was afraid I'd break it.

Just checked mine. It doesn't move either, though it seems to be a separate part. Think I'll pull it apart (I need to white-stem the headlights, anyway).

UPDATE: Have now had it apart. Yup, it looks like a hinge in there but I still couldn't make it move. I might have been able to pry it loose with a screwdriver, but since there's no trunk interior anyway, why bother? (I whited the stems, buttoned it up, and it's now back on the shelf.)

I never realized till I had it apart that the little vents in the side coves are not part of the body, they're red plastic!

I had a 1/18 plymouth Bevedere a few years back.   Trunk was separate piece.  Like hte fancier version Fury I had.   So I took it apart.   Jammed in the hinges were two logs of sprue or something that kept the trunk from opening.   Which meant that the trunk piece didn't have to go in and it made this particular Belvedere a lesser version than the opening trunk cars.   And it was cheaper as well.

So you might check in there to see what is in there - may be pretty simple to have it open.  but then does it have trunk detail if you do get it open?

Is the juice worth the squeeze?

This one doesn't. So, IMHO, no. B)
