ismaelg Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 (edited) Hello, Don't worry, I'm still the Corvette nut and will still make fun of Eff Ou Are Dee... Now seriously, I think this will be only my second Ford model. I did a Polar Lights pre-painted 2005 Ford GT when they were released. I also have in my stash a Fujimi GT40 in Gulf livery for someday. You see a pattern here? As you know, I love racing. Endurance/Road racing has always been popular. The latest Ford GT made a splash with its looks and unorthodox powerplant: A V6 turbo instead of the familiar V8. Chip Ganassi was selected to run the Ford GT racing program. The car debuted in the Rolex 24 at Daytona in 2016. Later that year, the car won the 24 hrs of LeMans. That's the car I will try to recreate here. Personally, I like the looks of the car, but I think it is the worst sounding car on the racetrack. But that's just my personal opinion. This is Revell's new Le Mans Ford GT. I'm already working to get appropriate decals for the 2016 winner which are slightly different that the 2017 represented in the kit. Thanks, Edited January 20, 2019 by ismaelg
ismaelg Posted January 16, 2019 Author Posted January 16, 2019 Hello, The 404 error did not let me do this in one post. Had to split it. See? I start a Ford and the forum breaks..... First impression: This car is bigger than I thought! And there is Revell's stupid roof In car camera dome that should be a separate part, sticking like a sore thumb. It brings bad memories back from the C7R build... I noticed that even if this is 1/24, the tires are exactly the same size as those in the 1/25 C6R. My intention is to stay as close as possible to box stock on this build. Thanks!
Jhedir6 Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 A Ford? Someone fell down and hit their head. Don't worry Ismael, this is a much better kit than the C7R. Yes, it's got some issue, but again a lot less than the C7R. Looking forward to seeing what you can do with it.

Ace-Garageguy Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 Well, if you just have to do a Ford, this is surely the one to do. Am I seeing that the windshield wiper is also molded as one with the body?
ismaelg Posted January 17, 2019 Author Posted January 17, 2019 (edited) Thanks guys! David, I hope mine turns half as good as yours! Tommy, That's a good idea... We can always LS it Bill, Yes, the windshield is molded in. Looks weird but I haven't looked at it in detail yet. So here is the first update: It is now officially started: DIE STUPID DOME! DIE! *WARNING* I may include random jokes and low jabs during this Fraud GT project Thanks, Edited January 17, 2019 by ismaelg
ismaelg Posted January 18, 2019 Author Posted January 18, 2019 Hello, Repeat with me: BOX STOCK No car of mine will have a decal seatbelt. Masking tape and solder, logos from the kit's decal. Thanks,
ismaelg Posted January 20, 2019 Author Posted January 20, 2019 Hello, The interior is progressing nicely. Out of Box or box stock... yeah right. I added a box with wiring harness, some plumbing (don't tell anyone but in the real car those are black wires but I like bright lines) and carbon fiber decals. The kit contains no carbon fiber decals at all. But I didn't cover the whole interior, again this will barely be seen if at all. This was just more for my own pleasure. You have already seen the seat, which is now in place. Now it is time to work on the engine and rollcage. Haven't touched the body other than eliminating the camera dome. Thanks,
Jhedir6 Posted January 20, 2019 Posted January 20, 2019 (edited) Nice progress Ismael. For the roll cage. if you pre assemble and then paint it you can still fit it over the interior tub. I found that the rollcage is a PITA to assemble once painted. The location points aren't engineered very well, definitely not like a Tamiya kit. Edited January 20, 2019 by Jhedir6
Funkychiken Posted January 20, 2019 Posted January 20, 2019 Excellent progress Ismael, looks fantastic, and this GT is a favourite of mine!
Maindrian Pace Posted January 20, 2019 Posted January 20, 2019 Hey, you want to sound nice, or you want to win?
ismaelg Posted January 20, 2019 Author Posted January 20, 2019 Hello, Started working on the engine. There is something wrong here: No, I'm not making the joke of the 2 missing cylinders. This is supposed to be a twin turbo V6. But there is nothing here that even remotely resembles a turbo, much less a twin pair. But even worst than that, let's assume the turbos are all hidden and out of view, the intake has nothing that would even insinuate a boosted setup. It looks like a naturally aspirated engine with weird air boxes. Maybe Multimatic/Ford didn't allow Revell access or something. But anyways, I'm not going there. I think/hope it will not be seen under the body anyways.Anyhow, here is the pretty much done engine. Thanks,
Jhedir6 Posted January 20, 2019 Posted January 20, 2019 Looking good. Ismael, here's a link to a Hot Rod article on the Ford GT race prep for the 2016 Sebring race. https://www.hotrod.com/articles/exclusive-inside-the-ganassi-racing-ford-gt/?fbclid=IwAR31CBY0S1ssxbhCd1QjWjb6CAGbrPBkw0waAkmbq7LAphzDzfvcoxcGcgI
ismaelg Posted January 21, 2019 Author Posted January 21, 2019 Thanks for the link David! And thanks for the tip on the roll cage. That will be helpful. I had found reference pictures of the engine. I thought about it but adding all that can cause fit issues and will not likely be seen. It would also require the plumbing from the turbos to the intercoolers to the intake. Not sure but I think I'll resist temptation this time... Thanks,

There's a lot of room in the lower part of the engine bay so you can add detail without too many issues. The top half is pretty packed tho. But you're right, nothing is visible through the window cause of the intake box. Edited January 21, 2019 by Jhedir6
ismaelg Posted January 21, 2019 Author Posted January 21, 2019 Hello, Just to say I did something about it, I searched around in parts boxes and came up with these little things. I have no idea what these are supposed to be, but now are part of a boosted setup. In the real car these look like throttle bodies/MAFS.Thanks,Ismael
ismaelg Posted January 21, 2019 Author Posted January 21, 2019 Hello, If you allow me an indulgence, I noticed in the reference pictures the racing seat has a little manual air pump. I suppose there is some adjustment like lumbar or something similar. As seen here:So I indulged my overcomplicaditis and added that. I know it will not be seen, but that is for my own pleasure.Hard to photograph so it is overexposed. It even has the dial to release air. Thanks,
ismaelg Posted January 22, 2019 Author Posted January 22, 2019 Hello, Just one more indulgence: Added air hoses to the air conditioning / ventilation system. This is the underside of the dash. You can't see them even when looking from the top, much less once in place. But I know they are there. Thanks,
ismaelg Posted January 24, 2019 Author Posted January 24, 2019 Hello, Interior and engine are pretty much done. Starting to come together. The roll cage did put a little fight but nothing major. Still a long way to go.The number decal in the dash is incorrect. It should be red for car #68. For 2016 there was no Michelin or Ford Performance decals on the dash. Just the car number and a GT decal. and a short video: Thanks,
Jhedir6 Posted January 25, 2019 Posted January 25, 2019 Nice progress so far Ismael. On the rear of the chassis the fins at the bottom of the aluminum support are suppose to be red, pending on which year you're doing the red will vary. You're right, box stock so far.....
Protouringjoe Posted January 26, 2019 Posted January 26, 2019 WOW! Just WOW! wonderful build. I'm saddened the kit engine is so lacking in detail. I'd buy the kit just for the engine for some pro-touring builds.
