Chris in Berwyn Posted March 12, 2019 Posted March 12, 2019 I’ve got a couple of the old Revell Custom Body FCs, but decided to use a recent Ed McCullough Duster version for my build. I’ll use a set of the CB decals from the kit. The kit body isn’t accurate for the CB car as it’s a Duster , not a Dart Sport. The real car also had the windshield and roof moved back with bigger front wheel wells. I didn’t want to try moving the roof, so I moved the engine forward to at least get it sticking out the windshield like the real car. I flattened out the hood to get rid of the ridge Dusters have, and I’ve also added a bit of a beak to the grill and will use a grill decal from Slixx. Lastly I’m using Comp Resins wheels and am in the midst of opening up the front wheel wells. Im hoping to have it at NNL East. Thx to Charlie at Pro Tech and John Teresi on the tip to use Aileen’s Tacky Glue to mock this up. First time I’ve done that and boy does it help!!
Brandon17 Posted March 12, 2019 Posted March 12, 2019 Great build so far! Keep the updates coming. Question for you. Where did you get the Aileen’s Tacky Glue from?
Chris in Berwyn Posted March 13, 2019 Author Posted March 13, 2019 I bought the tacky glue at Michaels, altho AC Moore and I think Jo-Ann fabrics have it too. I'd think Hobby Lobby would too. Chris
Brandon17 Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 I'll have to check that out. Thank you for the info. Brandon
Straightliner59 Posted March 14, 2019 Posted March 14, 2019 I've seen Aileen's in the craft section at Walmart, as well.
Chris in Berwyn Posted April 20, 2019 Author Posted April 20, 2019 (edited) Virtually everything painted. Decals next. The extra gray area at the rear made masking easier. Since I’m doubling up decals hopefully the white decal sections will look the same whether they are over gray or black parts of the car. I’d like to get it done for NNL East - wish me luck! Chris in Berwyn Posted April 26, 2019 Author Posted April 26, 2019 (edited) All was well but I applied too much Tamiya clear at once which attacked the decals. Have another set which I think I am going to need. This will be sitting in the pits and not getting to NNL East. Edited April 26, 2019 by Chris in Berwyn
dragcarz Posted April 27, 2019 Posted April 27, 2019 Looking really nice so far. Don’t get discouraged, did you tint the wheels with smoke?
GoatGuy Posted April 27, 2019 Posted April 27, 2019 Every build has a setback or hurdle. Keep going. I never saw his later FCs run, but I saw his early mini Charger run at Utica-Rome speedway.

The wheels are Alclad Chrome, but do look darker than other things I have hit with Alclad - I was trying to go a bit lighter on the Alclad to see how it turned out. The fronts are from Comp Resins, so I did the fronts and back wheels so they would match.

Only got to go there once as my dad hated and still hates loud things.
GoatGuy Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 Understood. I only went there 2 or 3 times as we lived about an hour south of there.
DumpyDan Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 Wow nice, man does that ever pop off the screen, great masking and colors.

Those are actually kit decals except for the white stripe on hood, roof and trunk. I am planning to put more clear on today - the decals have caused me some problems!!
signguy2108 Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 great work on it chris, this build is what inspired my to chop up my duster, lol

And I need to get another coat of clear in this. But given the weather I’ve been doing more outdoor things in my free time. I do want to get this finished though. Chris in Berwyn Posted July 16, 2019 Author Posted July 16, 2019 This is a pretty sorry excuse for an update but this is coming along. Paint and decals were salvaged from the clear coat problem. This will never be a contest car, but it wasn’t intended to be anyway. If you ever decide to build one of these, Chuck Boerner is redoing the Revell decals. He will include the white hood, roof and trunk stripes which will make decaying MUCH easier. Here are pix of the engine, tires and some of the this car had cool anodized tin and this was my take on it with an airbrush.
afxawb2 Posted July 17, 2019 Posted July 17, 2019 Great looking build....who's interior tin did you use or is it modified by you?
Chris in Berwyn Posted July 17, 2019 Author Posted July 17, 2019 Its Revell tin. Short extensions on the sides as shown as I moved the engine forward to get it sticking out of the windshield a bit. I also got the body to sit lower, so had to modify the doghouse for the scoop. That required a new windshield with a bigger opening. It is boiling hot out - maybe I should do some gluing on this this PM. I’m calling the body “good to go.”
