Faust Posted March 31, 2019 Posted March 31, 2019 There’s nothing like a good Model Show vendor’s area to separate my money from my wallet! Last weekend (March 23) was the HeritageCon 13 in Hamilton, Ontario’s Warplane Heritage Museum. This is a great show, and there were lots of vendors there plying their wares. Of course, I managed to find the real treasures! Matchboxes and Snap Fit ‘80s trucks among others were filling my trunk on the way home. Check out my weekend’s take below, and try not to be too jealous! There’s a poll, to as to which one is your favourite. I might review the winner sooner than the others, so don’t forget to vote! https://adamrehorn.wordpress.com/heritagecon-13-haul-march-2019/
Mike999 Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 Congrats on the haul! I still have your lust-list for my trips to the flea market. I just deleted the Matchbox Buffalo and Seafox. That only leaves the Matchbox Norseman and Mosquito, I believe. The vendor with the huge collection of airplane kits never returned, which is annoying. He had 2 of the Matchbox Privateers. I got one and wish I had grabbed both. I recently got the Copper State Models 1/35 scale WWI Lanchester Armored Car, which also looks like a very nice kit. I wanted that vehicle for years, but it was only available as a rare and expensive resin kit.
Faust Posted April 2, 2019 Author Posted April 2, 2019 Hey Mike! You are right - I've still (amazingly) never seen an Mbox Mossie. It seems unbelieveable, but it's true. It's a shame that guy has never been back. My brother has a Privateer. it's a huge, but very cool, kit. Has Revell Germany ever re-released that one? I saw that armoured car on the CSM website. It looked really neat. Those old "Model T" armoured cars make me laugh! They're so frail, but so aggressive at the same time. Like a Chihuahua on steroids!

Yes, Revell did release the Privateer! I wasn't sure and had to go search. Pic below, to help in your own searching. It appears to have all the same options as the original Matchbox kit. You're right about those old armored cars. They did look frail and always ready to fall apart. But some of the Rolls-Royce versions built during WWI were still being used in North Africa during the early years of WWII. So they must have been built extremely well.
mustang1989 Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 I thought that platform looked familiar. It's got B-24 Liberator written all over it. Cool lookin' bird.

Yep, it's a "navalized" B-24 with a BIG single tail. That Matchbox/Revell kit is the only 1/72 Privateer ever done. A few months ago, "Air Classics" magazine (IIRC) ran an article about a couple of these converted into propaganda planes, near the end of WWII. They flew over Japanese-held islands/territories and broadcasted surrender messages. They had huge loudspeaker arrays hung on them. That might make an interesting conversion.
Howard Cohen Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 I have been going to Heritagecon for many years, the last few as a vendor. I was told the unofficial number through the door was 2400 paid admissions with almost 800 contest entries. Add that to the 100 plus vending tables, a host club and the museum's volunteers, and you have a large group of people and a great show.
Faust Posted April 3, 2019 Author Posted April 3, 2019 Wow... That is cool! I've never seen the Revell boxing. I've seen a lot of other big Mboxes in Revell clothes (Victor, Do X, He-115) but never that one. It's an awesome looking bird, but I'd rather have it in 1/144; a bit easier on the shelf space! Howard: That's a lot of entries kit-wise, and a tonne of paid admissions. At $15 a head, the Museum did well. If it helps keep the Lanc and the rest flying, then it's money doubly well spent!
