ismaelg Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Hello, As you will see this snap unpainted model is the most important for me. Bad weather made a holiday a very special one. My son, Marcos (7) has done a few diecast pre-painted cars and a few Tamiya dinosaurs. But this is his first plastic car, and his first Corvette to boot. Under a thunderstorm and heavy rain, we sat in my workbench and he did it by himself. My only help was to open a few mounting holes to make it easier, and helped holding the car for the stickers. The pictures show our pride. Next time we will try some experimentation with paint and maybe some glue as well. Ask not what the young or our hobby can do for you, ask what you can do for the young and for our hobby. Lending a helping hand. This picture says it all. Can you feel I'm proud? Thanks,
george 53 Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 And you have EVERY right to be Ismael, He's gonna be a GREAT modeler with help like yourself!
Brendan Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Good to hear you're getting your son into the hobby and that you made it through the storm. I'm only able to see one picture, but from I'm seeing, he's doing a good job. As long as he does Corvettes or GM products, he'll have a place at your workbench.
MrObsessive Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 That's great Izzy! My Mom and Dad tried to get me into models when they got me my first ones on Christmas of 1968. In fact I was 7 myself but I just didn't like 'em! One BIG factor that got in the way, were those neat little diecast cars intro'd that year called Hot Wheels and I was hooked! In fact I still am! It's great he's startin' now before real cars and girls might get in the way. He's got a liking to them now so if that happens he'll come back to it.
BKIN10SECS Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Hey Marcos......YOU DA BOMB LIL BRO.....great job keep up the good work.
crispy Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 That's great and it was only a matter of time. It does make you proud and even more so when they have a big smile on their accomplishment. He has a great teacher too. I'm happy that out of the three boys I have at least one is very interested in the hobby. Congrats Ismael and Marcos! Chris
kerc Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Ismael, that's wonderful! I know the feeling...My son got into the hobby when he was 8...He built a Tamiya Subaru rally car. Only thing I helped him with was with the decals, everything else, he did himself (including spray painting the wheels and some hand painted details here and there)...He won 1st prize at the 3rd Caribbean Scale Auto Expo: Papa was (and still is!) proud...
novadose71 Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Way to pass on your hobby. I couldn't resist throwing this in, it's one of my favorite pics. My kids get a model each birthday and each Christmas from dear old Dad. This is my daughters first model from last Christmas, three years old,.....look at that concentration. She built her second, a 1/32 GTO last June and I hardly had to help her, ain't kids great.
