Getting paint off of tires?

Is there a way to get paint off of tires without ruining them? Here is an example from the '64 Indy Pace Car that I'm rescuing.

Shouldn't be a problem at all. Try rubbing alcohol, lighter fluid, Goo-Gone, acetone-free nail polish, whatever you have on hand.

Just plain old mineral spirits works for me.

Or you could just re-paint them black (do NOT use an oil-based paint).

If those are vinyl tires, you can probably scrape it off with your thumbnail.

Thank all of you for the replies. Excellent information from all of you. Some rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab took the paint right off.

I have used the "Purple Pond" method in the past with great results.
