wardsmodelbuilder Posted July 21, 2019 Posted July 21, 2019 I finally have a little time from commission work to start a little side project. After searching my stash I decided to go for this Beetle, which should be quick and simple. Its going to be painted with zero paints and cleared in 2k, with a beige interior. Might be a strange combination but its just paints I have lying around and I think the chrome on the body panels will look good against a dark blue. Its going to be a completely box stock build. Not looking for anything complicated. I have made a start on the body, sanding the seam lines out and given it a first coat of primer. to be continued..... Modlbldr Posted July 22, 2019 Posted July 22, 2019 What a great kit to work with. I really enjoyed working with this one. It is so well designed that it makes for a simple build. I look forward to seeing your results. Later-
FabbricaP Posted July 22, 2019 Posted July 22, 2019 Looking forward to the build. This kit is really enjoyable, had a lot fun with mine
Eric Macleod Posted July 24, 2019 Posted July 24, 2019 This is a model I've always wanted to build so I'll be interested to see what you come up with.
AUGIEDOGGIE Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 i love this kit ill be watching this one closely cant wait to see more
wardsmodelbuilder Posted July 27, 2019 Author Posted July 27, 2019 Here is the progress so far on the little Beetle. Nothing major wrong with the body out of the box, just a couple of mould lines which were easily removed. Primed, painted and a little bare metal foil added to the side features and then cleared in 2k. I will now start to work on the chassis and engine. Thanks Chris http://www.wardsmodelbuilder.com wardsmodelbuilder@outlook.com
Modlbldr Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Chris, Beautiful work on that paint. Looking great! Later-
GeeBee Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Looking good, that blue is a pretty good match for VW blue that came out in '67.
warra48 Posted August 4, 2019 Posted August 4, 2019 Will follow this, as I'm currently working on the exact same kit. Mine will be in Arctic White, but backdated to a 1963 model, as I'm building mine as my very first car. The seats in mine were a deep red with cream on the sides and backs. The kit hubcaps are the later flat type, but the hubcaps on the 1963 were still the deep dish ones, which I have on hand, salvaged from a diecast model I improved for a friend of mine some years ago.
retired & glad Posted August 4, 2019 Posted August 4, 2019 I also have the same kit but haven't started it yet. I like VW's. Also have had quite a few 1:1's. I even had a drag VW. It was a very fast car. Will be following this build also.
